I have been using an akai dps16 for all of my recordings...and i am looking into upgrading to a separate board and per say a 24 channel recorder... but i was wondering how they connect etc. so i can look into what i should get??? Do you record through the console (plugging your shit thru it) then connect that to the recorder directly? Then does the recorder have another output into the board for mix-down? I'm confused...thanks in advance for any help someone could give me.

A: Yes, and yes.

-you're not confused. ;)

rad, thanks.

what does anyone think about the alesis hd24??

MisterQcue just got an Alesis HD24,...

so you may want to ask him.;)

do they come with hard drives or do you have to buy that separately?

I can't speak from personal experience,...

but MrQQ told me that discs are purchased separately.

Maybe one of the other HD24 users could confirm that.

Mine came with one hard drive and two drive caddies. It was pretty much ready to go out of the box minus the cables.

Sorry for posting a dumb ass question but what interface format does the HD24 use? Can it use spdif?

It has 24 analog ins and outs and three banks of lightpipe ins and outs. No S/PDIF on the unit itself.

Hey Track Rat the HD24 i was quoted on only includes 1 caddie did yours come with 2 outa the box?? am i being stooged a caddie?

Paul, Lightpipe is ADAT optical digital format. It's 8 tracks of up to 24 bit/ 48KHz audio in a fiber optic (well, it's modulated light anyway) type of cable. The HD24 is equiped with three banks for a total of 24 digital ins and outs.
MiXit-G, the unit I purchased was from Guitar Center and came with two drive caddies, one hard drive and the unit itself. Tax and all it was 2K out the door.
