Hello. I new to music really. I just bought some state of the art gear that some guy sold me so I have set up a studio.

I done a few trax but my best so far I think is this one. It's called 'Give it Back'.

Please give it a listen and tell me what u think. Any advices appreciated. I hope to make it in the music industry very soon and want to know if I got wot it takes!

Thanks!

Well I thought I'd do something I don't usually do and listen to your song...........EXCEPT, your mp3 site doesn't want to play with my PC and soundcard setup.

So seeing I can't listen to your music, here's another suggestion................................learn to communicate with correct spelling and grammar, because without that it's unlikely that you will make it anywhere.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

THIS IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH !!

What is this ???

Absolutely un-listenable !! Sorry mate, but i really tried.. :p

Tell me why?

Hey! You don't like my stuff? You have to tell my why. Is it the mix? I know I am not gratest singer but maybe if a record company buys my stuff they can get in a profesional? I really want to be a actual sonwriter rather than front of stage. I am targetting ambient/techno market but trying to create a style with slower tempoe and with some live brass instruments. That's why I use large trumpets in my tunes.

Im also reading in sound on sound that record companies now very keen on real instruments.

Also, I have a tecnical question about midi. You have to unerstand that I a fairly new to this in between doing an English degree at uni and dont get a grant! So Im not a profesional yet so please not be too harsh with you critisism.

But I read in sound on Sound that you can make music thta is not in time, play in time. How is this possible? Sometimes Im playing out of time and maybe thats why Im sounding a bit rough around the edges!

Thanks.

Are you using real brass or fake? I can't tell because there are no mids whatsoever in the brass. With the low voice and the trebly brass you have big hole in the middle. If you are doing real brass you need to work on mic placement to tone down some of the high frequency. Perhaps you can consider another instrument to complement the trumpet, like trombone to make it more pleasing to the ear.

Regarding midi playing in time, I think what they were saying was that if you have a part that is out of sync with the rest of the performance, then you can move the parts around to fit. You can also change the tempo of the part to align it with the rest of the piece.

This is going to sound very harsh, but the song is awful. I mean awful.

Spend some time listening to more music before writing new material.

I don't want to completly dash your hopes, but record companies will not be interested in something that won't sell, and that won't sell.

Spend some time, learn, and good luck.

Thanks

Thank you. Those last comments were very helpful. Played the tune my girlfriend and she says I am crap and that I'm wasting my time and have as much chance of making it in music as she has of winning the lotto. (She doesn't even do the lotto). She knows nothing about music however so I don't take it too seriously. I think she's just making sure I don't get an bighead!

However, I will send 'Give it Back' (my best tune I think) and will send it to record companies like emi. They might spot some hidden talents. Ok, maybe the production is not top noch but you have to admit the song is good and catchy I think.

I will try and polish the sounds up a bit and then let you have a listen to the new improved version.

Anyway, what about everyone else's stuff? I would like to hear other peoples music so I can pick up tips and see how you're all doing it. As you can gather, I'm very enthusiastic and love music!

For some reason I think this guy's pulling everyone's chain. Having a bit of fun.... What school is UNI anyway?

We don't typically post songs here. You need to go to the mp3 forum on this site to listen to other people's stuff.

Somebody has to wake this kid up because he's dreaming. And it's a deep, deep, sleep.

First of all, lemme get this right, you went out and bought and this "state of the art" equipment from some guy = you have been had my friend. I can guarantee if you're new to music, you have no idea what state of the art means, you have been suckered. You're girlfriend is right, the chances of you getting signed are probably worse than her winning the lotto.
I turned it off before I got the vocals, so I can't comment on that nor do I care to.
Second of all...What makes you think EMI is going to sign you , let alone even listen to tape you send them? You must be newbie!
Jesus...

Someone pinched my video...

... and someone pinched a loaf!

Actually, it was good for a chuckle, I guess, and I hope that is whatyou really intended here...

dispondent.

Well, thank you all for taking the piss. Obviously you're all supremely talented. Maybe you can post links so we can listen to you're masterpieces? But I wouldn't be so unkind as to hurt anyone's feelings. Were you all geniuses from day one?

No, I wasn't having a laugh. I am new to this. I hope you lot can take the criticism like you've given it.

Makes me more determined to improve you arrogant wankers.

Thanks alot you nice people.

Don't take it so hard, but you asked for it. Go to the MP3 Clinic on this board and listen to some of the stuff there. And then notice that most of the posters say "I know this is rough, but.." or "This is not good, can you help me make it better?" And they are not just in a different league from you, but a different universe. Very few seriously expect to get a record deal; this is about love, not ambition.

It takes years to get any good at this - the Beatles played six hours a night, every night for months in Hamburg getting their sound right.

If you care about music, do it for its own sake and listen, listen, listen and listen. Now we'll see what you're made of:cool:

DITTO! :)

You know, I kind of liked it. It wasn't as bad as some of these other heads said.

It's maybe not the best recording, but definitely not the worst. I liked it, for one.

Cheesy, as much as it seems people are kicking the mickey out of you, I'll have to say that many of the bbs members here are indeed talented, sometimes with some awesome, awe inspiring songs and recordings. It's just a kneejerk reaction to say, [para], "well, you're all a bunch or righteous bastards, I suppose you're all so multitalented...", but there's real talent on these boards, despite the generally unfavorable review you've gotten. Most people would not say something sucked unless they had some sort of redeeming advice to give you on the turnaround, but I cannot speak for everyone, only myself.

I thought the recorded clip was very decent for a first effort.

if you wish, & pls enjoy!

Hang in there, dude. Your recordings will improve, and no doubt, some people here can come across a bit direct, and even may take some delight in telling you that you suck, maybe for sound reasons, and other times maybe not.

There's a give & take on these board that goes on. You'll notice, if you've been here long enough. Maybe someday you'll have the chance to tell some other Newbie he sucks. Ha, just kidding about that.

Hey, people have told me I suck, and it's all another normal day on the internet. Expose yourself to the world on the internet, and you're bound to find someone who says you suck. Don't take it too personally.

Your composition shows real imagination. The vocal intro part to me is almost reminiscent of Jethro Tull's "A Passion Play", which has several sections of spoken monolog. When the music commences, is just seems like a fun little jingle, almost with a SGT-PEPPER/She's Leaving Home/Penny-Lane feel to it. The strings remind me a bit of the intro to "She's Leaving Home", or [The White Album's "Goodnight" song], and the high trumpet part sort of reminds me of "Penny Lane". That's more in impression of sounds, than in actual overall composition, but the likeness is there.

I wouldn't say it sucked. Not at all. It's different, though.;)
