Hey guys I'm new here, and this is my 1st post here. I've been doing some searching but I haven't found answers to a few of my questions. Here is a list of what I have purchased, so you guys can help me figure out what to get next.

Roland VM-3100
Cakewalk PA9

I have a 1.6 ghz system
512mb ram
40 gb hd 7200rpm
Soundblaster live Audiocard
Windows XP

What kind of interface or soundcard do I need to purchase, in order to intergrate my VM3100 with Cakewalk?.. I have been experimenting for a while but currently I can only record 1 track at a time due to the limitations of my soundcard. I would like to be able to record multiple tracks at the same time, into cakewalk. ie...kick, snare, toms, overheads, and a scratch guitar track. Is there a soundcard out there that I can use in order to do this? Right now I have everything mic'd and running into the VM3100, I then send out a mix to the left and right mains, to a Y-stereo cable to miniplug adaptor, to the mic in of the soundblaster live. This leaves me completely limited to what I can do to the drum tracks because it is all mixed down to, and recorded as one track. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Does your VM3100 have the RBUS port? The Roland RBUS card will give you 8 digital channels of inputs and outputs.

I don't believe it does...I think it only came on the Pro Version...I will take a closer look at it tonight...If I'm not mistaken I believe it looks like a parallell port right? If so I do not remember seeing one on the back...would there be any other options?

I think you're right, it's on the Pro version and yes it looks like a parallel port. Your only other option is to use the analog and digital outs. Something like the Maudio Audiophile 2496 would let you use both and get 4 channels at a time into the computer.

I think if I take full adavantage of the board I could actually use the spdif out to send 2 channels, the aux 1-2 out to send two channels, and the aux 3-4 to send two more channels...that way I could actually be sending out 6 channels all together....I guess if I really wanted I could also use the headphones out and create two more from there for a total of eight. Do you see a problem with trying to do it this way?

I'm not sure if you will be able to get a seperate mix out of the headphone buss but it could be possible (maybe using SOLO).

You can get 8 outs-

2 Aux
2 Main
2 3/4 Buss (Pro has this but not sure about the regular version)
2 Spdif

It's too bad you don't have the Pro version. It makes things a lot easier if you can use the Rbus card.

What is a decently priced card that would work with the setup? I saw the one you listed but it will only allow 4 ins. How about something that will take in 6 analog and spdif for a total of 8? Any suggestions? The only time that I would actually use 8 ins would be during a drum session. Other than that it really is just one track at a time. Is there anything out there around the $200 range?

Thanks,

Matt
