There are around 100,000 threads on that subject in this forum alone. You might want to browse through a few of them.

Hey Mol Kres:
I'll answer your question before I sign off here. Don't be too disheartened. If you're guilty of anything, it's just "Poor Timing". Your question is asked and answered several times a week and that fact has been up for discussion in recent days. All of the folks here have patiently answered this question over and over and will probably go back to taking turns at it in short order.
Now to answer your question and in no way to put you off, (we actually want you to join us) take the time to read through this thread. http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm
It's an excellent introduction to Home Recording.
Come on back in when you're done and let us know what kind of gear you are interested in.
We'll all be glad to give you some pointers. :)

Oh yeah ....I did forget to welcome you to the site Mol_kres. :)
Do hand around it's very informative and a lot of fun while learning.

GOD, I love posts like these :)

Hey welcome and its allright these so called old users are very brutal to newbies :spank::spank: its like getting virtually raped in this forum

What they dont seem to get is this is newbie section and we are newbie , yes we can read the threads but we always dont find what we want, the other guys making the post might have a $500 budget and i might have a $2k budget , so the equipments recommended in that thread may not be the best for my buck.

Anyway like they said there are 1000's of threads on this topic but the best thing to do would be to think for a minute ( how much can i pay , what kind of room am i setting it up for , what kind of gig is this )

Because there are thousands of equipments for setting up and it all depends on what kind of setup you are looking for and whats the budget.

After you get a clear picture of what kind of money you are going to spent on this , i am pretty sure these hardass pro's here will show you right directions and whats best for your money. :drunk:

Guys if you dont wanna answer the question then why post anything at all or even open the thread?

jesus, he just wants some help.

anyways..

I'd first like to ask with how much are you willing to spend and what kind of stuff oyu wanna record because every instrument needs different things (more or less)

if youre going digital, as i would assume... you will need an interface, most of which come with recording software you need.

you will need these no matter what.

Computer
Interface
Software
Microphone(s)
Instrument

The signal path is this... Instrument > Microphone > Interface > Computer > Software

Lets say your singing! :)... that means you sing into the microphone, which is connected to one of the XLR ports on your interface... your interface is connected to your computer via USB or Firewire and on your computer is the recording software.

Electric guitar? either mic your amp and follow the same process or perhaps you want to go directly into the interface? well if you're doing that... then you will need some kind of amplification... for that you can get a DI box pretty cheaply. that path would be this... Guitar > effects pedals (if any) from there plug into your DI box or whatever form of preamplification you will have. from there plug into your interface and then so on.

same applies to bass.

Drums? harder....
for drums you will need at least 2 mics.. (i use 7 or 8).... its nice to be able to mic each piece of the kit... but if your budget doesnt allow it.. you can get away with 2 if you practice placement... it wont nearly have the same professional sound but like i said..y ou can get by that way... with 2 mics i would mic the kick with a dynamic mic and then an overhead condenser mic. if you can muster 3 mics then micing the snare is nice, with which i would use the shure sm57.

any questions? i know there can be plenty..

You don't need a computer, interface, and software no matter what. He could go analog. But he does need monitors no matter what and I don't see them on that list.

You need:
Something to make sound including one or more of:
*Instruments+mic+preamp
*synth+DI
*VST Synth

One of the following to capture sound:
*DAW
*Stand-alone recorder (Roland 2480, etc)
*Tape recorder (Tascam cassette, reel-to-reel, etc)
*ADAT

Something to hear sound:
*Powered monitors
*Passive monitors + amp
*Subwoofer
*room treatment

One of the following to mix sound:
*Analog mixing board + outboard effects
*DAW + mouse
*DAW + outboard control interface

To begin, I recommend as a minimum:
*Free download of Reaper + free plugins
*Nice set of powered monitors
*Single mic of your choice
*cord to adapt that mic to plug into your pc's sound card
*a day moving furniture to get the room sounding the best it can

If recording turns out to be your thing, then look into a subwoofer, more/better mics, a real recording interface, more cords, more room treatment, etc.

If recording turns out to not be your thing, the mic was probably cheap and you have a good set of speakers now for your TV/Xbox/bedroom stereo/whatever.

jesus man... ar you here strictly to argue with people? did you read my post? i said "if your going digital, which i assume you are"

enough of the god damn attitude.
