After a 10 or so year vacation, I have decided to getback into recording, this time, with no 8 track:)

I got an Audigy 2 last week, as it seemed the best able to handle music, plus dvd and the occasional game. And I bought Sonar on the weekend, hoping the piano-graphic would work. It does, but it's not music pushing a mouse, that's for sure, not intuitive, and I'd rather get a guitar and play through that, or even a very simple keyboard whose sole purpose would be...input.

Could someone give me a little advice here, please, as to recommendations, for both a guitar add-on and a small keyboard for input, and also if I need anything other than my Audigy card/Cakewalk setup to get it running.

I'd also like to ask what people these days are doing to get a guitar onto a digital track. My old-school inclination, as a 'hard rock instrumental (Vai, Satch, etc.)' kinda guy, is to buy whatever the current equivalent of the old portable Zoom unit is, and plug that directly into the line-in of the Audigy.

I'd rather not mike a cabinet anymore, I'm in a small family apartment.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks kindly, Shawn:)

For guitar, I'm pretty happy with my V-Amp 2. It beats the POD (version one, anyway). :)

For keyboard, you could get a cheap 48-key og 61-key MIDI-controller, but you'll need to shop around.

Thanks moskus. I've been searching around here, looks like there are plenty of keyboard 'controllers' (as I now know they're called). As for the V-Amp, it looks great, too.

Lots to learn here, thanks!
