New guy hear, just a quick question. Does anyone have any reccomendations on how to hook up my headphone box to my mackie cfx12 using our own amps and a roland drum kit ? I know it can be done, as we need to practice using headphones at our new location. Thx

ok so this might be a dumb question.. but why not use the headphone jack?

you know most roland drums (TD4 etc.) have a headphone jack on them too - and it will still go to the mixer. If you are trying to use a headphone amp then you probably want to run the main outs to your HP amp

Ok, yea total got that, but the key is do we take our signal out from amps to individual channels and if so what input, then how do we set up the phones, probably another bad rookie ? Thx for the reply

if your amp has a line out then you can use that, else you need a di box. Plug each instrument into it's own channel.

Make sure vocal mic's are always on even channels! jk - it doesn't matter where you plug it in...

is this the first time you used your mixer?

first time working with it this way, new location cannot play live need to run headphones for everyone. Good training for the ear I suppose ! I am a bot lost on the set up for each amp to mixer then hooking up headphone box. Thx

Any other recommendations from any pros out there?, Thx arcadeco !

Use the 1/4-inch MAIN outputs off the Mackie to feed the headphone amp. That way everybody gets the same mix.

If your headphone mixer has solo inputs for each channel you could patch from the channel "inserts" with a TS > TS cable pushed in halfway to the insert and everybody could hear their instrument boosted a bit in the mix. If you push it all the way in it interrupts the signal going to the main output so you would only hear it in the channel it was inserted to on the headphone amp. Dig?

You can also use the AUX sends and setup a couple different mixes depending on how you patch things and assign fader controls. All depends on how many inputs your headphone amp has and if there are channel inserts on it.

Check out pages 8, 12 and 13 of the manual.
