Newbie Monitor Question

So assuming I get my hands on a pretty nice setup, mbox, protools, etc, would it be possible for me to monitor the mixes thorugh my fairly nice Aiwa Stereo? Do I need a higher sound quality?

If so, are Edirol monitors good?

yeah it's possible, but I don't know if I would use the stereo as a preamp. If that is the plan. After I burn a disc, I try not to use my Aiwa stereo to compare my mix to a commercial cd because it really boosts the hell out of the bass, when on other systems it sounds fine. Donno, but I just don't trust that thing
 
It is not a matter of better sound quality, it is more about neutrality. You don't want speakers that put too much of thier own sound on your mixes. That is what studio monitors are supposed to do.
To answer your question, yes, you can monitor through your stereo and with time you will be able to make mixes that will sound good other places as well.

BTW turn off the surround sound.
