Standard Sonar MIDI-sounds? Sonar doesen't come with any sounds, they're probably from your soundcard... ;)

Check out:
"My MIDI-sounds are not heard in the mixdown. What is wrong?" from the Cakewalk FAQ! :D

OK, that worked, but it gives me (duh...) an audio channel. Can't go into the Piano roll with it (where most of the fun is LOL).

I'm screwed aren't I? Play what I want recorded on the keyboard, no touching up in the Piano Roll with soundfonts, if I want it mixed down as-is?

So what that means is, I need a really good, many-instrumented synth module DXI, right? -i.e., if the VSC or Absynth were my thing, I could just use them all the time...

Oh yeah...I've never been able to get more than 1 channel working with one DXI (VSC or Absynth demo), what I mean is, if I want 2 tracks with Absynth, playing different notes and different instruments, I have to load them as DXi's twice (or however many instruments I want). That CAN'T be right. What may I be doing wrong?

Thanks very much, as always, moskus:)

SavedByTechnology talked me into getting the Delta 66, since it supports digital in, which the Pod XT can use:)

Too much $ for me right now, so I'm gonna wait till after I get the Pod.

I do, however, now have enough to d/l the new FL Studio Producer:D:D:D

You are shure you can't rip out any of the other PCI-cards? Soundcards are best with PCI. I would only recommend USB to laptops (and even then PCMCIA would be the way to go)...

I agree. Bandwidth isn't good enough and can cause problems. Either a Firewire interface (if you have one) or wait until USB 2.0 cards become available. However, in the real world, a PCI would be ypur best bet.;)

Ya, I mean, the Audigy 2 doesn't totally stink, so why go to USB and call it an upgrade if it's got limitations.

Gonna wait and get the Delta 66 so it's compatible with digital in for the Pod XT.

Be sure you have all your midi editing/tweaking done BEFORE mixdown... Mixdown converts to a stereo wav/mp3/etc file so you no longer have midi info/tracks.

Also if you are just trying to free up tracks (which with midi isnt usually a problem) you can only combine tracks that use the same channel (drag and drop them) but personally if you recorded them on seperate tracks to begin you probably want them seperated.

I use a Delta66 but with an omni. Its a very good card.:) I hope you will be very happy together:D

I want the Omni too:) It is probably all I need for mixing, and it has an effects loop:)

(Only ever gonna have a guitar/Pod going in usually, and occasionally vocals, usually at different times:)

I can't tell from the pictures - do the units fit in an empty CD bay of the computer?

No, unfortunately, it doesn't.:( But it is great for mixing:)

Oh well, a few coffee stains never hurt anything else I have scattered around my computer:D

I got my guitar last night! I've only been playing for an hour and I've already got big freaking bubbles on my finger. Gonna be a painful month - in the best way:)

Sucks, I spent all day yesterday trying to give people money so I could d/l the new FL Studio Producer and SimSynth, but no one I know has any money left on their credit card. I gotta send them a money order or something I guess.

I'm having trouble getting my guitar to sound on the computer. I'm going straight into the card with a 1/4 to 1/8 stero cord. Do I need to power it first? I've set Audigy mixer to line in, but still not getting anything. I think I won't get sound till I get the Pod. Crappy.

Have you ever used Reason? To be honest I'm trying to get Sonar out of my working method, because it is just too complicated for me, I hate to say. Do you think FL and Reason would make a good team?

FL producer promises to make short order of my guitar sgnal/audi, and it's totally great for rhythm, but I want some classic sounds with a lot of creative freedom, and not a brain-numbing interface, and from what I can tell (???) Reason would be good for that. I'm leary though, because with the old FL I've got here, the Absynth demo won't even load (says it doesn't recognize the thing), so does that mean that even though FL is DXi/VST compliant (I don't know about VSTi - but I'm using the Directixer - so shouldn't that let me bring it in as a DXi?) - I might not be able to bring FL Producer and Reason together.

Anyways, just rambling. Gotta stop drinking on Friday nights. I wanna go back to bed but my shiny new/old (1991) Ibanez is calling me to bleed:D:D:D

Talk about a moment or two of clarity. I've been getting nowhere fast with Sonar, and the book I bought has so far been just so much Greek, but I opened it (you guessed it, in that sacred sitting place) to an arbitrary page about 1/3 of the way through, and it told me how to load Re-Birth (which I don't have) and in general other stuff...so I tried it with Orchestral (which I've not been able to get working), and the things it said, while I wasn't really interested in the particulars, got me finally figuring out all the other stuff (I loaded Orchestral ONCE, and now know how to get as many tracks/instruments out of it I want, and it's a general principal that's working everywhere else:))!!! I'm now doing in 2 hours what I've been trying to figure out for weeks!

Still can't get my guitar to record without it recording the freakin metronome. And I have no idea how to make the ReValver work while I'm recording, only after it's recorded (perfectly clean recording only I guess till the Pod comes next pay). Oh well, one step at a time:)

Funny thing is, if I had been able to use someone's credit card on Friday, I'b be plowing through FL Studio right now, but I think it's time to put the money into XL:):):)

Great day. There's a motto here, which you guys have said since the beginning: patience...and too much feta on my pizza last night:)

Go to Options>Project>Metronome and uncheck the Recording box. ;) You need to do this for every new project - unless you create a template which allows you to describe to Sonar exactly how you want to open a blank project file. And you can have several variations of characteristics, each with its own name.:) See the Help file for details of how to do this.

Having a POD won't make any difference. You need to cure this right now. I take it you don't have the audigy Live! front panel as you say you are using a 1/8 plug/socket? The Live! panel has a pre-amp if I remember correctly.

So you have your geetar plugged into the Audigy back panel and you ain't hearing anything? Have you got your soundcard selected in the input to the track? Is everything maxed out in the Windows mixer and the Creative mixer? What boxes are checked in the windows mixer for recording and playback?

You should be hearing at least something.

Ya I was in panic mode, I knew it should be working. I got it playing clean. Had to remove TV Wonder cord, and plug it in there, and plug TV wonder in the other one.

Works fine now, signal level is fine, no clipping, just a bit of noise.

I got 3 posts going on here. Slow down pony!

Thanks Paul881, can you answer my other question - how to get distorted signal for just playing around until I get my Pod? I can only record clean to Sonar (which is great) but I'd like to just sit down and hear an electric guitar:) - I can hear the ReValver AFTER recording in the audio channel, but now while playing:(

Oops boss coming ciao:)

To distort a signal, turn the gain to max and turn down the level... I don't know how you would do that with your equipment... ;)

Maybe if I replace the stock pickup with, say, a blender, i could put it to "puree", and turn the soundcard down?

:O
