I recently purchased a M-Audio Uno midi interface for use on my PC (Dell), and after setting it up, I notice when I play a note about a quarter second to half second delay before I hear it. I am using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, and a Roland Quitar Synth GR-9. I downloaded and installed the updated driver for the Uno from M-audio's website. Any suggestions on how I can correct this delay problem? I have also done the XP optimization bit, and everything else is working OK.

I don’t think this is a MIID problem, more than likely a configuration issue. I don’t use cakewalk but there should be configuration parameters that you can tweak to minimize your latency problem. You may want to try posting in the Cakewalk forum, someone there should be able to help. Sorry not much help. :(

Reduce your latency in Cakewalk options (I don't remeber the place to tell you, I think it's under Options --> Global or something like it).

Latency is an audio driver issue. He's talking about a MIDI interface.

Are you trying to play a softsynth with the GR-9, or just trigger the GR-9's sounds?

I'm trying to play a softSynth in FL3. I'm also trying to use the midi for notation.

I got rid of the UNO, and am now using the edirol UM-1X, My problem has been reduced, but I would like to hear wwhat I'm playing in realtime, without the delay.

I heard a salesman in my local Music store playing a softsynth using M-audio's Oxygen controller. There was no delay in the sound. (he pressed a key and we instantly heard the sound) I would like to be able to do that with the GR-9.

A guitar synth controller will never be as fast as a keyboard controller. Guitar synths have additional latency because of the time it takes for the synth to figure out the pitch and convert it to midi. That added to possible system bottlenecks can add up.

What are your computer specs?
