I've a song with a two guitar intro. When I solo either track, it is clean and doesn't clip or crackle at all. I compressed some on one track and it behaves nicely. The other track sounds great in solo but, when I add the other git track (the one that has compression and sounds good) the track that soloed fine now makes my monitors crack and crunch in a bad way. Niether of the tracks were recorded too hot as far as I can tell. When one is played by itself it sounds fine. I've tried e.q.ing the hell out of one track with small success but, I loose the tone of the guitar and thus, the"goodness" of the track.

I've fiddled with this till my head spins, ears blead and knowlege (limited as it is) is spent.

I hope I've explained the problem sufficiently to get some help.
Oh yes, help would be nice.

Save my intro cause I can't.

Thanks,
Theron.

If you're doing computer recording, adding a track to another track will raise the overall level of the song - soloing they play fine, together they clip. If that's what it is, turn down the level of each track a little bit.

Sounds like you're eating into your headroom, if solo'd tracks sound ok, but when you add more and more tracks it starts to distort....

Check your gain structure....

1st thing I thought was gain structure also...
check in the newbies forum under one of my tip-o-the month posts....

thanks so much to all. I'll check into the gain structure tips and toy around with the suggestions.
