ok, i usually play rock and roll, but i'm looking to try fome rapish stuff for fun. but I'm quite new to midi, what kind of software can you use to make good beats (free or paid, i don't care). and any pointers on using midi would be great too, thxs. (my midi input if from a delta 10/10lt and a optimus MD-1600 keyboard)

Since your keyboard is not equipped with a USB port you will need one of these --- LINK --- to get midi info into your comp. Also, you won't be able to use any of the internal sounds or rhythms in that 'board because there's no provision for turning the local control off, so you'll just need to turn the volume down on the keyboard to keep the sounds from distracting you.

As far as software goes, try Reaper --- LINK. It's a newer audio and midi software package that's easy to learn and easy to love. It supports VST and VSTi plugins too, so that opens up a whole wide world of 'free day' shopping HERE. It's shareware ($40) with a 30-day trial period to make sure you like it.

As an alternative, you could try one of the Fruity Loops versions HERE. They have several from FL studio to FL Producer. It too is easy to learn --- you should download the demo versions of both after the midi interface arrives.

thxs, but why usb? can't i just take the midi cables straight from the keyboard to my sound card?
 
No.

Standard soundcards have no midi inputs --- that's what you need the MAudio Uno for.

Or kill two birds with one stone and get this, because very soon you're going to need to upgrade your stock soundcard anyway.

Dude, check your facts. The 1010lt has a breakout cable with DIN-style midi inputs.

So no, you don't need any midi to usb interface. Just plug the keyboard into your soundcard with a standard 5 pin DIN midi cable.
