dont bash cuz its a newbie question please.
when i hit my kick drum, the mallet on the pedal keeps bouncing against the drum...

what do i do?

Pick your foot back up.

You either aren't hitting it hard enough to plant the beater, or you are leaving your foot down too long.

Your foot controls the beater, you just need to control your foot.

Yes! The sooner you learn to control it, the better!

I used to burry the beater for a long time. It was one of the hardest habits to break! I got to a point where I knew I liked my bass drum to have a nice 'boom' at impact and noticed I was burrying the beater. It was killing the sound, especially when I used hard beaters and impact pads. "Boom-kkkrkkrkk". I knew all my hero's didn't play that way and I had to re-learn how to play the kick!

It was very hard to do! Learn good foot control early!!!

where as control is always and important thing to work one i will say that in some cases burying the beater is a good thing and if thats so in your case then try hitting harder and giving it some wieght from the leg as well as tuning the batter looser

aight thanks tbone...
i loosened the springs on the pedal... a little tight they were.
im controlling it now, and its all good, thanks for the help:D

I like to play in my bare feet. It seems like I get a better feel of the pedal that way. Recording ,live, practice, I just like it. Anyway......

i konw what ur talkin about...bare feet is the way to go

your welcome (and i have to agree with the others about barefoot but my feet get cold on the metal pedal so i add socks hehehe
:p )

lol i was actually gonna say the same thing... i record in my basement, its chilly down here.

The most common reason for the beater to bounce off the head, is that the resonant head has no hole in it. Cut a 5" circular hole in the resonant head, (the one you're not hitting) And the problem is solved.

Evans also makes pre-cutted front heads, which are really cool!

Now you can bury your beater!

I used to have that problem, and still do at times. All I can say is practice. Also, I agree about playing without shoes for more control, but has anyone besides me tried playing iron cobras barefoot? They'll cut you up man. I play in socks...

The beaters on my double pedals always come back and hit me in the shin. I usually finish a drum session in with sweat and blood. Getting really annoying...

Sounds like you're sitting waaaay too close to the bass drum. In 25 years of playing I've NEVER had a beater hit me in the shin! Do you play with your foot on the whole footboard?
