Hello folks, I've really enjoyed reading the informative post on this forum.

I am completely new to all of this recording thing although I have been reading a lot on the subject lately.

Here's my question; I need a decent, not pro, mic to record acoustic guitar and vocals to Mixcraft 4 or Reaper using a preamp USB interface. My voice is low end and I don't have much projection. The music I want to record will be from country to music in the style of Jim Croce.

From what I've been reading, good quality voice recording depends on matching voice to mic?

I don't mind used in the $100 - $150 range.

I just don't want to wast money on a mic that's want suit my need.

Thanks for any suggestions

There are many on this board who may recommend a MXL or Rode for your application. I haven't used MXL's much, but like the Audio Technica AT-2020 for low-register voices and guitars. You can pick them up new for $100.

If you want a sample, check my website at http://web.mac.com/david.swinehartand listen to the LLG song "Summertime". The low-register female lead was recorded using a 2020 without much treatment.

Be sure to check out the Studio Projects B1 (make sure it's the studio projects one and not behringer) which is really good for the price on acoustic guitar & vox.

Thanks again for the comments, I'll check it all out.
