So I bought a used JCM 800 2204 head about a month ago. It sounded great, but since it was used I took it into my guitar guy and had it re-biased and new tubes put in. Primarily because of everything I read on this board, I learned it would be a good idea. I opted for a matched set of Mullard Power Tubes and some JJ pre-amp tubes ... oh my god, the difference is freaking unbelievable!

I am rather new to Tube Amps, I only own 2 of them. The JCM and a Vox AC 30 CC 2x12 re-issue. I guess I just had no idea what what re-tubing and resetting the bias would do to my amp. So for all of you guys out there trying to learn more about tubes and amps I am telling you this made a world of difference in my sound.

I hate to tell you this, but Mullards and Electro-Harmonix are the same tubes. Sovtek guy bought the names and rebrands the same tubes in Mullard, Electro Harmonix, and I believe Tung Sol and the price of the Mullards is like double that of the Electro Harmonix for the same tube. That guy's a crafty one, he almost had me sucked in too, until you consider Valve Art bought some of the Mullard gear...
On topic: enjoy the new tubes, they'll only get better over time as they burn in. New tubing and biasing is a good good thing.

Yeah I checked around and it looks like "sovtek" covers a lot of territory. thanks. I am in the market to retube my mesa mk 3 ouch.
