New to the board AND recording!

Hi everyone, I'm glad I stumbled on this place. It seems like everyone here is super friendly and helpful. I suppose I'll start here. I welcome and appreciate any advice, tips, direction, or exercises that will help me improve my set up and craft.

Set up:
Interface: M-Audio ProFire 610
Mic: Blue Bluebird (with shock mount)
Computer: Macbook 2.4Ghz, 13"
Software: Garageband, looking into Logic or M-Powered ProTools

I'm mostly into this for recording demos at home, acoustic / electric guitar and vocals. Eventually, I'd like to build up to be able to record a full band.

I have very little experience. Read: I know how to open a project in Garageband, and I think I figured out how to make the inputs work and the monitors jive.

Next step: reading tweakheadz.

Any advice?

thanks for the suggestion. i'm going to sift through it tomorrow.

i am, needless to say, overwhelmed. i knew there was a lot that goes into recording, but holy crap. i need to take one step at a time, master an aspect, and move on.

Welcome to the forum; there are many friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful people here. One thing I would recommend is to use the search function since most newbees ask many of the same questions. If you can't find a thread or an answer related to your particular situation, ask specific questions and provide as much detail as you can.

I went with Logic Studio 9 (although Logic Express is also great). My Bud has a Pro Tools setup and after playing around with his I decided on Logic - BEST MOVE I COULD HAVE MADE. It also comes with a whole lot of kewl plug-ins, Instruments, loops, etc. Logic RULZ.
