Hello.

I've never used digital recording equipment before, i've always just used an analog mixer when doing recording. I am really new to this stuff and I have a few questions..

First off, tonight I was screwing around recording some acoustic stuff and I decided to do 2 tracks, and pan one left and one right. Now, I made a new Audio track in Cubase LE (Audio_01), and set it in the VST Inputs to record off IN 1. Okay, so I recorded that, then created a new track (Audio_02), Since I used the same microphone I just set that one to record on IN 1 also. I recorded that track, and continued into the Mixer. I listened to the songs, both tracks played just fine, but when I tried to Pan one to the Left and one to the Right, only Audio_01 played, and it wasn't even panned.. Now I bought this thing like 3 days ago, and I don't really know anything about the set up or anything and if someone could help explain the Firepod / VST / Cubase for me, I would appreciate it.

Second question, I could only find the 4 band EQ in Cubase, I couldn't find anything that would expand me to a 10, or 30 band EQ. And even when I was screwing with the 4 band EQ, just like the Pan, it didn't really do anything.

Any help is greatly appreciated, please help a newbie out, haha. =)

Take care,
Adam.

First, make sure you are recording to a mono track, not a stereo one (there should be an icon with either one or two circles in it -- click it so there is only one circle). Second, you'll need to make sure that the monitoring button is enabled when tracking (the speaker looking icon), but disabled for listening.

I did both of these things but it still only plays ONE track (the first track) when I do playback on it. And that's if it's panned, if I don't pan it they both play. I'm so confused haha. Thank you for the information though, if you have anymore my eyes are wide open. =)

Adam.

This has like all the tracks set up, but it still won't pan. I don't understand if there's something i'm doing wrong while setting it to record or what not. After recording is there something you have to turn off? or what? Thank you for the template though, that WILL come in handy. But i'm just getting so frustrated with this thing. :/

probably a stupid suggestion but...... do u have ur speakers set up properly to play stereo? so if when u hard pan L and R u only get L, what happens if u hard pan both tracks R or only have 1 track and hard pan it R? do they play?

When I hard pan Audio_01 hard L, and Audio_02 hard R, Audio_01 is the only one that plays, and it's C, it's not even in the left. And i'm not using speakers, i'm using headphones. I didn't think that would matter. They are stereo, monitor headphones.

Hey Adam,
Mick's suggestion actually sounds kind of right. If you're somehow listening to just the left channel, then if both things are in the center, you'll hear both centered, but if you pan them left and right like you said, you'll hear only the one that's panned left (but it'll sound centered). So, a few troubleshooting suggestions:

Try switching the panning (pan Audio 1 right, Audio 2 left). If you now hear only Audio 2, then your problem is that you're somehow only hearing the left channel. If not... call Presonus. Their tech support is outstanding.

If you switch that panning and now only hear Audio 2, then you need to figure out how to get both channels. Things to try: make sure your headphones and all connections are completely plugged in, try a different pair of headphones to see if the same thing happens, check "VST Outputs" under the "Devices" menu to make sure that you have outputs 1 and 2 activated and in stereo... that should be a good start.

As far as the EQ thing goes, you might have it bypassed somehow. If you want, you could try taking a screenshot of your settings for EQ/VST Outputs and post them here - I might be able to help from those. (Screen shot is done by pressing the "PrtScn" button on the keyboard - usually towards the top right - then go to a graphics program or even word and choose Edit>Paste)

I've got a Firepod and LE, too, so I'll do what I can to help. :) PM me if you don't hear back from me soon.

Thanks a lot man. I have to go to work in about 20 minutes so I will try to all of this when I get home. I'm excited to see if it works, haha. I will definitly PM you or anything if I have any other questions. Once again, I really appreciate this man, I feel dumb but I just want it to work so I can start recording again haha.

Take care,
Adam.

If you need it bigger I will understand but then I might need an E-Mail address because the file-size is huge.

By the way, you were right, I put Audio_02 on the left and it played it, but I still don't know what to do about fixing that. I used different headphones, checked the VST Outputs, but I don't know how to change it to stereo if it's not in stereo. The screenshot should help you help me haha. Thanks man, I appreciate it.

Adam.

Haven't forgotten about you, just haven't had my DAW set up for a week and half... hopefully today or tomorrow...

No problem man, take your time. =)

Ok, next suggestion - WITHOUT your headphones on, try plugging them into the Line Outputs 1 and 2 (on the back of the firepod - these may be very loud from the headphones, but shouldn't damage them - keep the volume in Cubase low just in case). If you have Audio 1 panned left, it should come out of only Line Output 1. If Audio 2 is panned right, it should come out of only Line Output 2. See if that happens. If it doesn't... then call Presonus. They're gonna be a lot more help than I can be. If it does... well, then, there may be something wrong with the 1/4" adapter you're using, or maybe the headphones...? I'm not sure.

It works, if they're plugged into Line Output 1 and it plays if it's panned to the Left, and when I plug them in to Line Output 2 they play if it's panned to the right. So what does this mean haha? Thank you.

Holy fuck what a lame thing to be wrong with it, I just tried a different 1/8" to a 1/4" adapter and it fucking worked. Haha I feel extremely stupid now.. Good call man. Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it. =) Now i'm going to be screwing with this nonstop all day. Once again, Thank you.

Glad it works. :) Wondered if it might be something weird like that...
