I am in the process of adding a new Recording Studio to my new home I am building at this time. Main Studio is 24 x 24 with the Vocal Booth at 12 x 10 and the Control Room measuring 16 x 20. I believe I have a good size for a Home Studio...

The Mixing Console I have is a Carvin SL56 Studio/Live Series 56-Channel 8-Bus

I also have built a "New" Dedicated Computer for use if I need it. It is the Athlon XP2100+ with 2GB DDR-Ram, Asus A7V266-E DDR Motherboard, and (5) 80GB Harddrives just for recordings. The operating system (Windows 2000 Professional) is on its own 40GB HD. I also have the new Cakewalk Sonar XL 2.0 Software for this system...

Question #1 - What is an excellent Sound Card to use with this type of setup???

I also have the Alesis ADAT-HD24 MultiTrack Recorder and if I am not mistaken, I probably don't need it if I am using the Computer correct???

I am new to this Digital Age as all my experience over the years (30 of them) has dealt with Analog only...

Question #2 - Can I use the Alesis with the Computer System with the Mixing Console I have???

Question #3 - Will I need A/D Converters as well as D/A Converters???

May have many more questions for the gifted here in the future...

Thanks in advance for any ifo you may be able to advise on...

BTW, excellent forum. One of the best on the Internet for information in all areas...

A MOTU 2408mkII would be a good match to the ALESIS unit. That's what I use anyway to good result. What I like about this set up is you can track to the HDR, transfer the tracks into the computer for editing, play back from the computer through the MOTU back into the ALESIS using it as a D/A converter to your mixer.

Will check it out Track Rat. Thank you very much for the info...

Any other help on this would be appreciated...

Gear or building?

You might get more gear answers on the other forums, this one is for Studio Building and Display. I'll be glad to help on this subject. However, I do have a hybrid home studio that is both analog and digital and do enjoy the gear stuff. But i can only offer opinions in this regard. Fitz
