Slowing becoming un-noob.
So I'm thinking the Rajin Cajun by Eminence.
I hear it will make my amp quite a bit louder and also sound better.

But I figured I'd get your opinions first.

Here's really what I need. The sound to be as good as (hopefully better) than the speaker that is in it in terms of sound quality, but I want loudness. If I can make this little bugger a touch louder it'd be perfect. I heard the rajin cajun does a good job. But are there any other "louder" speakers out there?

Thanks guyyyys. (and gals?)

If you want cleaner and louder I'd be looking for a more efficient speaker than Eminence, I've used Celestions in some of my combos and like the results. Electro-voice also comes to mind-I'm sure there are lots of new companies as well that I'm unaware of though.

I use a lot of distortion...like probably 75% distortion, 25% clean. Just louder really. I've ran my amp through a 2x12 with V30's, didn't get Too much louder. But it worked well enough.

I went with a Jensen p10r alnico, which is only very slightly louder than the stock, but it sounds noticeably sweeter.

since you like distortion, from what i've read, sounds like you'll like the Cajun best.

question is also: how much do you wanna spend? i would imagine that celestion has some REALLY nice speakers, but personally i couldn't see myself paying that.

Definitely under $100.

I think I pretty much have my mind set on the Cajun. It's only like $65 or so, so that's a good price for me, and it sounds like I'd like it. But who knows, maybe someone on this site really has a secret speaker that will be just perfect. Ya never know.

I found a really sweet deal on a bunch of reconed 75 watt Celestions-I couldn't pass on them!

If you want a bit more bite you could try a High gain ECC83S form Eurotubes. Little more edge.

I spent a good 5 minutes looking for a speaker, then realized that you probably meant a tube, ha.

I'm not really looking for too much bite, when I have to replace my tubes I'll take on figuring out what I really want.

Right now, 'tis the speaker.

But thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, it's the european equivilent of a 12ax7 preamp tube, I do believe...

the way it was explained to me a tube swap won't be very noticeable in the SCXD because of how it's designed. Especially not the 12ax7, because it's not a preamp tube in the SCXD.

I still wanted to try it and ordered a Tung-Sol 12ax7. It hardly changed anything - there was an ever so subtle diff, but not better or worse.

a speaker change, though, is more noticeable.

P.S. The tube swap thing depends on what you got as stock tubes, though. Some people (i think the earliest bunch) got really cheap tubes, so they've reported improvement even replacing a 12ax7. My amp came with a russian EH tube. Tung-Sol's are also russian, possibly made in the same plant, possibly even the exact same tube :) So it could be that a higher-end tube would be noticeable, but at this point i can't justify it.

Is wiring the cab in 4 ohm an option? Got a 4 ohm out on the head?

I've got a 2X12 with V30's and 1968 Sunn 60 watt head and I could swear it sounds louder with the 4 ohm wiring.

Is it just me???

SCXD's speaker-out is rated for 8/16 ohm. From what I read a 4ohm would only be an option with some component mods (transformer?).

i don't think elenore is looking to do major modding.

you won't need much more loudness than you get with the Cajun. Just mic for larger venues.
