The chorus and drums being in mono is a little disconcerting - realized is because its the extra guitar parts and synth parts in the verse are panned, everything else is dead center. The cymbals get really ringy in the chorus.

Thank you I appreciate the response. It is true the drums are in mono because I only have one condenser mic, so I put it on the overheads. I have a few dynamic mic I put one in the kick. I only can record 2 input at a time (left, right) so I went with Overheads+Kick. I wouldn't mind advice on a better way. It is also true that I tried to make it less mono by panning those extra parts a little but it was not enough because the only review I got mentioned it specifically lol.

I do appreciate the time spent listening. Thank you

You might try using the two mics to record left and right of the drums to give it some space.

You could record the whole session with the two overheads, then either comeback and re-record the Kick and snare in another track to give it the ump, that is 4 tracks for mixing or use some samples for the Kick and Snare. I think for your purpose re-recording would be the best option to keep it real.

Yes, I thought the snare was a little far away sounding. I have a Zoom H2 mic that stores recordings internally, I was thinking I would try to use that next time to get a better snare sound and mix it in after. I don't know if it will pair well with the condenser to use as a second overhead but it is a stereo (actually surround sound) microphone. When I would try to use it in the past it was much too sensitive for the drums and would be very distorted.

I will try to work on and solve this problem!

Thanks

Song has potential....is this an original of yours? Sounds somewhat like something CAKE would do. I think it sounds really good until that heavy guitar kicks in. Too loud and probably need to EQ some mid out of it.

Thanks for listening! It is an original song that I wrote. I actually struggled quite a bit with the level of that guitar I didn't think about reducing the mids. Thanks for the advice.

I thought the song was cool. I love the vibe. Love the vocal delivery. Maybe it's just the mood I'm in. I thought the distorted guitar was OK, it fit the song well. I liked the acoustic guitar solo - weird and again fit the song well.

The mix is real narrow. Almost mono. I'd spread things out more. If the distorted rhythm guitar was double tracked and spread wide, it'd be cool.

The bass was a bit too sterile for me. Needs more low mids.

It's brilliant! I love the feel of the song. I love (like trip said) the acoustic solo. Just drop the grit guitar a bit and raise the sliding guitar bits up and you've got some fun. Also, just for kicks, can you do an old retro UFO taking off sound at the end? Something like THIS.
