I've been working on this one for a while, it's been slow going and I wasn't sure if I would ever complete it. It's not the same song as what Heatmiser recently posted, just coincidence it's the same title.

Not sure if it's about myself.... :laughings: Any comments are welcome. Thanks for listening....

Loser

I know you don’t feel it.
You certainly don’t look it
Damn good job of hiding
The loser in you

But I’ve known you now forever
And I couldn’t have known you better
I wish to god I had never
Seen the loser in you

Faked your way get to here
Maintained your composure
You had them fooled, now didn’t ya dear
Nothing but a poser
But I can see right through you
I know you’re just a loser

Ya get your love from a wire
Never want to get closer
Afraid someday they’ll discover
The loser in you

Got the world believing
You’re some kind of genius
Yet missing real life achievements
The Loser in You.

Nice overall mix - the drums seem a wee bit compressed but not overly. I get a nice stereo spread from the whole thing and the main focal point/vocal/solo hit you right up the middle where i like 'em. Bass has nice definition and guitar tone is great! I like the echo on the "loser"...

Sounds good chili.

Mix-wise it sounds pretty good overall. The vocals can come up some once the song gets rolling. They're a little buried in the more rockin parts. I'm not crazy about the leads. They're kind of sterile and emotionless, if that makes any sense. No vibrato or bends or personality. The lead tone sounds direct and scratchy. Other than that I think it's pretty good. :)

Cool tune, I think the mix is a bit cluttered in the 7-10k range, maybe some more drastic panning could help. The vox could come up IMO. The lead guitar does have a noticably DI sound but overall I thought it fit OK. Nice work!

Cool man, thanks for the listen. I'll check out the drum tracks and see if I can make them pop more. I use ezdrummer with light processing on each track.

Ya know my lead solo parts are never stellar. I don't claim to be a good guitarist. I worked on this lead solo part for a long time and this is what it is. ha ha ha.... It's a fun song to jam to, so I might go back and rework it. Thanks for the good words and advice. Always appreciated.

Thanks for listening and the kind words. Electric guitars go through digitech modeler. I don't do anything to them once they're in the computer except light compression.

I'll look at the vocal level.

Nice one Chili...has a very dated sound in a good way...I liked the guitar tones..conjured up a period of time well..my favourite is the rhythm tone...like early cure at the beginning..I need that sound :)

mix sounded solid though I think PDP hit on something...theres a little too much HFs on my monitors giving it a slight tinnyness when everythings in full swing..just slight though

While Im here I was wanting to ask what software you use for videos? I got myself a video camera and Vegas Home Studio 9 is going for very cheap..so thought Id take the plunge..get that forum going ;)

Thanks much for listening. I think I need to dial back on the hihats, maybe crashes. If that isn't enough, then I'll do an overall drop in the 7k range like you guys suggested.

I use Sony Vegas HD 10. I upgraded from Home Studio 9 and it wasn't expensive at all. I think less than $100. It's easy to learn if you're comfortable with a DAW program. I previously had Adobe Premiere Elements, but it didn't do AVCHD, Vegas was the only decent program that could handle it, so when I bought a consumer grade HD camera, I switched over. Don't think I'll be switching again.

I'm not having much luck with the Music Video forum. :(

Cool. Look forward to a real video. I've gotta get started on the next one. Even my 5 yr old is bugging me to do it. :o

Good song - I'd actually like the rhythm to be scratcier & toppier to get closer to the Cure.
Yeah, the vocals get a little lost as you begin to rock.
Solos could use a little more perso - whether that's a tone change or more bends as Greg suggests.

Thanks Ray. The solos really are my weak point. I'm not creative with that stuff. That's kind of why I like farming it out to people who have the chops.

I'll revisit this song in a couple of weeks. I'm gonna take a break from it for a while.

BTW: I couldn't give rep to any of you, so thanks again for all the good comments!!!

When the song first started out the bass line seemed a bit over-compressed, after the drums and dynamics kicked in though I didn't notice it really.

The soloing has a 60's vibe-kinda like Big Brother with Janis Joplin-a little overly busy sounding. Maybe economize on the lead lines-don't play over the vocal parts---I shouldn't be saying anything as I'm terrible for overplaying--:o
So take my comments as just an opinion, I do think some nice slide playing would suit the song well, though.

It's coming along nicely though, Dave!
