The 1st couple of minutes remind me of Buffalo Tom.
Whilst the drum sound fits & makes sense when the whole things pumping the kick is still too up front in the intro for me.
Cool song, performance & mix.

Thanks everyone for all the great feedback and the nice comments. I'm going to mix it again with a bunch of these suggestions and I'll post it up again soon. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your input, you guys rock!

Best,

Dave

Dave - don't shorten that intro, you'll lose a lot of the song if you do imo! It builds well and gives a good contrast to the big chorus. Nice song and great vocal :)

Sounds pretty good. I think the mix is really good. I agree with the snare being hit WAY too hard in the chorus. It also seems like he's using too many snare hits for a chorus. Just a bit busy is all. That's about it from me. Good job.

Nice. I would have loved to have heard a woman's voice come in pretty strong in the bridge near the end: "hooooome" but maybe its just me ;)

Ok, I just finished a new mix. I changed a few things based on the comments above, namely: 1) Pulled drum levels down 6dB at start and gradually increased to full level when bass comes in, 2) pulled 5 dB out of bass at 200 Hz, 3) decreased volume of a few of the chorus snare hits to try to make them sound a little more like ghost snare hits (not sure how successful I was with this....?), 4) Added vocals in end chorus - doubled leads, added harmonies, etc to try to make it more powerful. Here is the new mix: SoundClick artist: Dave DeWhitt - page with MP3 music downloads

Thanks for all the positive comments and the suggestions, I think it's a better mix now!

Best Regards,

All you need is a wah wah and you have a 6/8 version of I'm your Captain.

Just kidding.

Nice vocals and harmonies, good tones on the guitars.

Some of the drumming seems a little odd to me. I go minimal with drums.

Really nice harmonies near the end (where I hear the wah wah - ha ha)

Definately better all around, you might try a multi-band compression on the bass just from 50-200 just to even out the subs, you could also try it on the master, but thats a nit-pick. Overall real nice job! Nice studio too!

Cool! Definitely an improvement. The snare thing in the chorus sounds like it's been reduced slightly, but it still kind of attracts some attention to itself. Ghost notes would probably be a good idea, but the levels have to come down a lot more to achieve that effect. So far, I think it's working.

Great tune, man.
