I'm in the market for some new software, I currently use a PC with PTLE and the Digi001, any cool software I can get?, it doesn't have to be connected to pro-tools, it can be for my home computer too, anything.

You may have a hard time getting anything more than two ins and outs on your Digi001 to work with other audio apps. I hear Logic sometimes works with all of the Digi's i/o, but it seems pretty hit or miss. Did you have anything in mind?...editor, tracker, sequencer, etc...

Not really

I compose all my music without computers, I use the Comp for recording/mixing etc...

Well, I'm thinking hard about upgrading to SoundForge6 for two buss stuff. I just got an e-mail from Sonic Foundry about a deal for $150. I haven't had my hands in it yet but I dig 5 pretty much so it can't be too bad.

A 2-track editor like SoundForge or Wavelab is pretty essential.

I couldn't get by without a tracker/softsynth app, 3 faves are FruityLoops (99$), Acid ($250), Reason ($280). I use Fruity with my SoundBlaster card, it doesn't play well with the Digi001. However, Reason works great with the 001... but I rarely use that, Fruity is better.

If you really want to burn cash, get something by Native Instruments. Reaktor is killer ($430), or you can get the stripped-down Dynamo version ($170). Absynth is killer too ($250).

For Pro Tools LE/001, you can't beat the bombfactory plugins for coolness. They're pricey, but they look and sound like the old analog boxes they emulate, and only Pro Tools or Performer users have them. www.bombfactory.com

I'd prolly say Samplitude or Nuendo

How much is Samplitude going for? Isn't Nuendo around $1,200 or so? Imortant considerations!

I'd second the Bombfactory stuff. I keep reading about the LA/2A and some of the others, and have to keep the stiffy down (I use Nuendo, so I can't use it).

Maybe some mastering stuff like Izotope Ozone. I don't have it (yet), but everybody's gleaming about it. I DL'd the demo and it's awesome.

...crap. I guess you'd need a DX capable 2-track editor for that (duh). SoundForge 5 is good (cheaper than WaveLab).

yea soundforge is cheaper, but its not better :)
as for the digi.. i doubt the digi is gonna work with nuendo or samp... i know i'll work with logic.. i set one up with logic

It will work with any app that supports Windows MME audio. However, you won't be able to use all of the inputs and outputs, with Nuendo etc. you will be limited to the first 2 inputs, and the first 2 outputs, plus the S/PDIF ins and outs. Latency is fine if you go this route, though not outstanding like you get with Pro Tools, or you would get with an ASIO driver.

Samplitude is excellent, and yes it is expensive, I think it is now around $600, but NO, you do not need a two track mastering software if you have Samplitude. It does everything-recording, mastering, CD burning. I have Cubase, Cakewalk, Wavelab, Sound Forge, and all I use is Samplitude. I do strictly audio, I have heard it is not as good for midi.

I already have soundForge, Samplitude sounds good though, I think I also have Nuendo, but I could get cubase & Logic.

Seanmorse, I noticed your avatar is a CD Baby Icon, Would you recommend getting a bar-code from there? Have you done it?

I have the bombfactory LA2A and the 1170, Ozone sounds good too.

Oh, by the way, this is me (Stone B).... having some problems with my profile.

Actually, no. I've never done it.... I just liked the picture (baby with headphones) and goofed with it until it looked like he's jammin' :)

I ditto the Samplitude recommends.

I'm playing around with Sonar, but not much.

I think I'm sold on Samplitude, is it better than Logic?

I think I may need both since c9-2001 doesn't think Samplitude will work with the 001. Does anyone know if Logic will support all 8 ins and outs?

I think I'm sold on Samplitude too, but I can't get a straight answer on how much it costs(Samplitude studio). Their website lists everything in Euros. Is their website the only place you can buy it? I can't seem to find it anywhere else.

I was sold on Samplitude too... but it's recently being bought by Emagic and I don't think that is a good thing. So now I'm waiting to see where it's going and for the time being I've put my money on Vegas 3.

Why is that a bad thing?
