If you don't like Logic, it's a bad thing (not only MY opinion)... they are going to make it a companion for Logic (I think). As far as the news I've seen on this issue, they have already thrown out skinning support and mounted it with a dark-blue logic like skin.... maybe you like these developments.. I don't...

Great, there go my hopes

What's wrong with Logic?

I don't have it, but I'm asking because I want a stress free studio, all the little annoying problems have finally gotten to me and I'm ready to spend some money to put an end to them. I want ease and comfort, efficiency. Is there any way or any point to getting Samplitude before Emagic buys it?

I thought Logic was one of the most stable packages around. I know there's a funky learning curve (I got a stripped down version with my C-Port), so I never got into it.

Well, I just don't like Logic (although it's a great package to a LOT of people). I was just about to get Samp when I heard that it's sold to Emagic. For what this is going to be, the jury is still out I think, but I decided to sit this one out. When Emagic releases the "next" Samplitude version, I'll take a look and decide. But it doesn't look good from where I am now...

For example, there was announced that the next version of Samplitude would have native VST/VSTi support, but this is one of the weak spots in Logic.... go figure...
And as I stated in my other message, they (Emagic) stated already that they dumped the skinning support (sort of). Seems they are afraid anyone would remove the well known dark blue layout (how many current Samp users are going to hate that interface ?).

Guess I'll just have to be patient
any drawbacks to just using the old version?

I don't think there's a problem as long as you can buy it from Magix. But, again from my point of view, I'm reluctant to invest in a product that might not be supported like I want to see in the future.

Currently I'm leaning towards Sonic Foundry's Vegas 3. I upgraded my Sound Forge license to ver. 6 and got Vegas 3 LE in the bundle. I'm running that one through the paces (although it's restricted to 4 stereo channels) and it seems I'm going to upgrade it to the full version soon.

I think Vegas is one of the best alternatives (although I wouldn't mind having a nice Nuendo rig, but that's way above my current budget).

Crap

I thought I had it all figure out, but now I'm more confused than ever. I may have to call friendr and see if they have any of this stuff so I can mess with it and see if I want any of it.

So far I'm thinking Logic, but just because it may support all ins on the 001, but besides that I'm interested in Cubase and Wave lab.

I think I'll wait to see what happens to Samplitude.
