New reverb unit, will it be worth it for under $300.

I just sold my lexicon ALEX...It sounded great to me and, I got it off ebay for 170.00...I sold to upgrade...I would recomend it..and you would still have130.00 to play with!!

I've got a couple rack units in the cheaper price range you're talking about--in fact, I have both a TC and a Lexicon.

Which do you prefer? I am thinking about getting something relatively inexpensive to save processing power.

David--I'm just not qualified to answer that. I know that's not what you want to hear, but I don't want to steer you wrong. I bought the TC M-One XL a few months ago at a point where I was writing & recording a good deal--so I was able to dive into it and get a sense of what it had to offer. And I really liked it. No regrets whatsoever.

Then later, I came across what I thought was a good price on the Lexicon MX400 and thought it would be cool to have a couple of out of the box FX flavors. Problem is, I've been so distracted w/other junk since that point, I've not really used it--so I couldn't even tell you which I prefer.

The lexicon's punched into the patch bay--but hasn't been tracked at all yet.

Sorry...

If you're mixing in the box and looking to extend the life of your system take a look at the UAD.You'll get a few instances of reverb rather than one or a combination of other effects, plus it's integrated into your host.

That is what I am doing. Once I am "in the box" I am not going to re-convert my signal back to Analog, send it through a hardware reverb, which them comes back AGAIN through my pro-sumer level A/D D/A convertor.

UAD is all about, if your musics already "in the box" why send it back out again?

They've got a "summer sizzler" event on right now, with some very generous deals. I ordered the PCI-e in Friday. I am going to end up with $250 in plug-in vouchers as well.

I was thinking of using the spdif outs in my soundcard.

Also, my computer is older and doesnt have pci-e.

Hello everyone, I am tired of cheap plug-in reverbs.
I am looking into getting a unit to handle all of my reverbs for everything: guitars, vocals, drums, synths. I am really into shoegazer and slow moving indie music, like Sigur Ros, M83, and Mogwai. I also love the sexy reverb during much of the 80's. Just the smoothness on such songs as "This Woman's Work" from Kate Bush, or "Coming Around Again" from Carly Simon, or everything from the Jesus and Mary Chain (which is more gritty I know).
So my question is: will buying a $300 reverb unit from Lexicon, Kurzweil, or TC make a huge improvement over cheap plug-ins, or is it not worth it until you get into the $1000 price range with these brands?
Thank you,
Rob

The Kurzwiel Rumor is a great sounding, flexable unit and worth it. Lexicon ceased to exist and TC is useable (in this pricerange). I have used all three and can say that I would not buy a Lexicon below the PCM91
But, it is all in the eye of the beholder.
