Hi there,

I am in the process of building a home based recording studio business. My question is what legal hoops do I have to jump through in order to record artists' songs. How does the liscensing work. Do i obtain this ordoes the artist? What if they want to record a cover song? What rights do I have to obtain and how do I go about getting this done for them?

Sincerely,

Whew!! That is a huge relief! I didn't know if I had to get entertainment lawyers involved! Thank you Miroslav!

There is also the matter of who owns the recordings. It's the artists songs, but if you recorded them, it's your recordings. I would think it's a negotiable point, but one that needs to be discussed between you and your clients. Maybe do a web search for studio contracts and see what the norm is.

...and not this "Norm"

Thanks Chili,

I will check that out and compare what other studios are doing.

Thanks too for the wise words from Norm!:thumbs up:
