Woah there ! Gassy, Klagen and Dastrick tried to help and stick up for you. I understand you being pissed off, but don't talk about "millions of things" when what you mean is "three".

Don't let the door hit you on the arse on your way out Bo...

It's a home recording forum and while its purpose and utility is slowly changing over the years, generally it's populated by people who create music in some form of other and who are a little wary of people they don't know coming and asking for stuff for nix....

You might have enjoyed having a swing at themdla over grammar, but you personally display little knowledge about how the world works - makes you the bunny, not him. You perhaps could have got what you wanted had you approached it in a different fashion.

Like the YouTube BTW... comedy genius...

At the risk of becoming a pariah I have to say that level of ridicule and smartass jests at the expense of the OP was pretty juvenile and harsh. The guy just wanted to ask for help at something he didn't know how to do himself. It doesn't have to become a sounding board for some people's self-aggrandizing smartassery comments that essentially boil down to "you are dumb and I am smart and you won't get anything from me!" Yeah real mature. If I wanted someone to play a piano part for some project I was working on I would ask a piano player if he could help me, and I would be pretty offended too if the guy was insulting and said "learn how to do it yourself because that's what I did!" What is wrong with this picture?

And yeah regarding how someone defines a musician, that is a semantic arguement. Personally I think it means someone who can create a work of music. In that way, a symphonic violinist is not as much a 'musician' as a trained robot, a tool of the composer who's music he can perfectly recreate. Art is creative act of, well, creating... not just being a tool. The carpenter builds the house, the architect designs it. Who created the house? I would rather call it a Frank Lloyd Wright house if I lived in it, than a Steve Johnson the foreman house. Thomas Crapper invented the toilet, not Joe the Plummer who installed it. It's a silly semantic debate how you call it a musician, and an aesthetic debate regarding what counts as music too. People record new age compilations of bird songs, does that make the bird an artist?

hahahahahahahah!!!1

wow that got a bit out of hand so let me answer the detractors :D

"Dear themdla:
you're really funny. not. that was a good one. sorry none of us are good at making beats. we're all full time college students and none of have the time or equipment to just go out a buy a korg or some type of synth to make beats. "

dude i'm sorry your pantys are in a bunch because i made fun of you... get over it!!
if your ever going to be sucessful at anything you'll have to learn to deal with criticism.

i work full time, have a girlfriend, play in two bands, and work in a studio... i still had time to RTFM and learn to use programs like reason, cubase, and protools to make my own beats and songs, fuck man i've spent the last 15 years learning to play instruments just so i'd get the chance to write my own music.

if you ain't got the time to learn to be a "musician/rapper/mc/beat maker" then find a new hobby.

"on the other hand we can write lyrics which i why i put up a link to our rap. you're really cool though. i was just wondering if anybody wanted to put up a beat and get their name out there."

yeah i'm dying to give away "beats" for free that i spent hours build, mixing, and developing so some lazy jerkoff can say ahhh, writing "music", thats too hard can someone else just do all the work for me. learn to write your own beats loser!!

"on the off chance that are stuff does get a lot of plays so will their beats and that is how the circle of music works. but good argument! its not like this was my first post or anything and from a senior member you were really cool."

i'm one rap hating voice on the entire website, i'm not a representive of this site. sorry my little jab got so blown out of proportion

"also exact quote from you
"also please teach me to use autotune so i can have sing thx!!! hahahaha"

see i dont get that hahahaha. were you laughing at your own fucked up grammar. because i sure as hell was. and cool shorthand writing. thx!!! i remember when i was in 4th grade too."

yeah guy thats called levity, look it up, have you ever heard the internet meme, "i can has chezzburger". this joke is a play on that theme, ala, "i can has sing".

So a guy comes to the forum with a valid question and he gets jumped on? C'mon people. You could just keep it to yourself.

He wasn't asking for criticism of his raps. He was asking for information about beats.

And this makes absolutely no sense. Your telling me that a requirement to be a musician is that he/she has to be able to or want to write music? So the thousands of professional symphony orchestra players that can play Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 better than you can say you own name are not musicians because they can't write music?

That's absurd.

no he was asking for free beats.... if he was asking for help in making beats i'd be guiding him through that process... instead i'm busting his balls a bit :)

no you don't have to write music to be a musician but you should be able to "play" your instrument of choice. it's like saying "im a producer because i own recording gear!!" (no your not, what have you produced)

in a rap group the 2 "instruments" are voice and sampler/software/synth/etc... this "group" is missing half of what it takes to be a "group" unless they're planning on releasing the first acappella rap "album".

dude why do you need a recording forum to ask for beats anyway? are you actually.. you know... recording anything???

plus really i'm the only "a-hole", don't blame everone else.

if you want beats all i'm saying is you should make them yourself, it's not hard ESPECIALLY in your genre of music, instead of looking for handouts.

as i said earlier if you were looking for help writing your own "beats" i would have been glad to help you :)

i'm just kinda tired of this ever growing culture of lazyness and took it out on you. sorry about that

actually he didn't ask for help he asked for a handout.... let me guess your also on welfare...

It doesn't have to become a sounding board for some people's self-aggrandizing smartassery comments that essentially boil down to "you are dumb and I am smart and you won't get anything from me!" good argument, sorta... i made a tiny jab at this guy, not a long winded arguement about the downfall of music some such "aggrandizing" commentary.

but your right if i needed a piano part that i couldn't play myself, i might ask a friend for his chops, sure.

to me this is a bit different then what the OP is looking for. it's likely that i have most of the song worked out (chord changes, lyrics, melody, scratch tracks, other instruments, etc...) and this guy is stepping in either because i've payed him or because he is a friend (neither is the case with the OP).

And yeah regarding how someone defines a musician, that is a semantic arguement. Personally I think it means someone who can create a work of music. nope in my book unless you build the house, write the beats, sample the birds, or build the robot then you don't deserve the artistic merit attributed to their results, much in the same way i wouldn't credit the server who brings me my food with the result of it's taste.

4) load a "beat" from the thousands of freely provided, unlicensed beats contained within
5) .....
6) profit!!!

now does eveyones pussies feel better???

Bo, not to be condescending in any way, but what happens if you can't find beats ? And is anyone in your group looking into learning how to put together beats ?

The guy just wanted to ask for help at something he didn't know how to do himself. I don't know if any of that was aimed in my direction, but either way, I stand by what I said. I was aware that what I was going to say could be taken the wrong way which is precisely why I said I wasn't being condescending. And it actually brings up quite an interesting sidechain for debate, namely, is it healthy for someone to be requesting beats and stating flatly "We're no good at this" {no problem there} and "We aren't interested in learning". It's a bit like saying, that I'm a great lyricist but I need some of you guys to create actual finished instrumental songs for me to fit my lyrics to.
Is that a bad thing or a good thing ? I mean, many times in the past, lyricists have worked that way. It's how Elton John and Bernie Taupin got going, for example. So I'm not sold one way or the other. I need to think it through thoroughly. However, I would always encourage people to come up with their own stuff or at least try. prh01827 said they had an EP to come up with, like now ~ it is winter !~ and I was curious, well, say you can't come up with beats, what then ?

this^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ but said in a much nicer way than i am capable.

side note: can some one help me become a nicer person? i'm not very good at it but i have a book coming out about kindness later this year and just needed a little help finalizing it.

wait.... is this the right forum??

yeah you're prolly right KC.

normally i am helpful... i'm just kind of a dick sometimes and i shouldn't let it get the best of me but certain things get under my skin in a way that is hard to hide :)

Lighten up. You've hardly had any responses yet. Based on your display of thin-skinnedness I'm scared you might kill yourself if somebody were to criticize your rapping.

Chill. You'll get some beats, and might learn something in the process.
