Hi guys,

If you get a chance, please have a listen to "Worldwide Swapshop Party" on the nowhereradio link below.

It's what you might call quirky guitar-based pop/rock...!!!

Any comments welcome on song or production.

Thanks in advance,

Mscmln.

swapshop was culture shock, this side of the pond thinks Holiday is your best. Even if I knew where you were coming from, write more like Holiday. (what were you referencing about emulation of an influence?)

Everything sounds pretty good mix-wise.

There's a couple of pitch issues with the vocals.

I really like the acoustic guitar stuff on the right side, I wish there was more of that :)

The guitar/wah stuff @ about 1:20ish needs to come up, I had to really listen to hear what was going on.

Thanks for sharing!

Hold on thur captain....

....TIME WARP....all tha way back to tha year 1981! I checked out Holiday first...I DL'd it with my slow-ass dial-up...but it was definitely worth the wait. It sounds like you have a strong early 80's NewWave/Synthpop influence going on here. I'm anything but a cognoscente of this era of music, but bands like Talking Head, The Cars, Devo come to mind.....and the intro thing was pretty cool too. It kinda reminded me of early U2!

So are you a one man band or did you have help recording this? And what kind of setup do you have? I think it sounded pretty damn good!

They Might Be Giants?

My initial impressions are that the production, mix, arrangement are great. Well done!

Sounds like it's heavily influenced by "They Might Be Giants". A very unique sound that few can imitate.

I really like the melody. The "instrumental" section starting about 1:05 is very interesting. However, the bits of sound effects could be a bit clearer. I had difficulty identifying the individual things going on in that section, but I was really interested in figuring them out. The spoken bits in the background need to be clearer. Maybe lower the guitar a bit in that part.

The break-down to acoustic (and build-back up) at 2:20 is my favorite part of the song.

There's some really good stuff here, I liked it. I may not be qualified to talk technical specifics, but my ears are fine. Anything lacking in the vocal department, (your voice is fine but I felt like you are holding back a bit) is well made up for in musicianship, creativity, and the arrangements themselves. Also, I think the ability to have a sense of humor in the writing is a big plus, especially if the music is worthy. Could be you've heard some Smithereens? I'd like to officially apply for the job now please. Good job.

Thanks

Thanks to those who listened and for the kind words.

Full marks to Tim, yes I'm a TMBG fan, and this song just kinda went that way, so I went with it!

Winston, thanks mate, yes it's just me, written, played, sung, recorded, produced, mixed,mastered... My setup is Cubase VST 3.7 (it still works!), a few guitars, a Pod, GadgetLabs 8/24 (so I'm stuck with Win98), Joemeek and TLA voice channels, Mackie 1202VLZ, a few free soft synths (although I've since got a Roland JP8000), and a load of soundfonts played though the Maz Vsampler.

(Oh yeah, and I was around in 1981 and buying a load of records!)

Interesting composition. Good job recording the drums; maybe the hardest thing for most of us to do. Keyboards sit nicely also. Vocal does have pitch and tone problems, but the spot on attitude makes up for some of that. I was distracted at times by what I took to be string noise.
