I just installed my new Omni Studio with the Delta 66. I seem to have everything configured ok. Everything looks good in my Device Manager. I do need help with playback. I have a few questions:
I don't see any way to plug my CD-Rom audio into the soundcard. How does the delta 66 handle playing CD's?
Also, I have a cheap subwoofer/2 speaker combo that I was using for playback. How do I connect these to the Omni studio for normal windows audio playback?
Thanks
Len

I cant remember exactly how to do this but you can set up your card to be used for CD rom, systemsounds, etc.. through windows. Their is a setting you can change to play audio with a digital connect thru the mobo.
May only apply to WIN 2k & XP

As far as tieing in your speaker system, you simply need to get converter plugs

What kind of converter plugs?
I assume I would have to go from 1/8 mini to 1/4 TRS.
I tried setting up my CD Player for digital out, and I tried the windows CD player with no luck.
I used a converter to take the 1/8 on my speakers to 1/4 and I plugged the 1/4 into the monitor out Left on the Omni.
I'm going to try again with Windows Media Player and see if that works. Did I miss a step on the Omni?

Do you have a soundcard besides the Delta in that machine? If so, you need to go to the Sounds icon in the Control Panel, then the Audio tab. Make sure that you have "M Audio Delta 66 Multichannel" is selected in the Sound Playback and Sound Recording sections.

If that is right, the likely problem is in the Delta Control Panel. Have you read the Delta manual (the blue one)? Check out page 13. Getting your head around the Patchbay Router is not easy; I still get confused.

Plug a pair of headphones into one of the Phones jacks on the front of the Omni and turn its knob up to 4. Start playing a CD in your CDROM and open the Delta Panel. You should see activity under WavOut 1 and 2. Uncheck the Mute box for both, if necessary, and raise their faders up to max (0 db).

Now go to the Patchbay panel and look at the left column, H/W Out 1/2. This control what is sent to the card's outs (monitors and phones). Since the activity is on WavOut 1/2, check that button. Or you can check the Monitor button, if you want to use the Monitor faders to control levels. Go back to the Monitor Mixer pane, and make sure the Monitor channel is un-muted and the faders are up.

As for which jacks to use for your speakers, check the Omni manual (the red one). On page 6 it shows you the back panel. The Monitor Outs accept either TS or TRS, so the 1/8 to 1/4 adapters you already have should do the trick. Note that if you have a super cheapo set of speakers with only one 1/8 plug, you are not likely to get stereo output by putting that plug into the L jack. You should get sound, though.

Good luck,

connect your speakers to the monitor out, and you the knob on the front to set the volume level

The CD drive has a wire with a little plug inside your computer that needs to be plugged in to an audio processor. The delta 66 does not have a slot for it! Many motherboards have one. Although a lot of people don't want motherboards with audio at all, so everything cleanly will get handled by the soundcard. So to play CDs/DVD audio on your computer, you need...another soundcard. (in addition to the delta) Through some miracle of computing, the sound still can be made to come out of the omni studio.

Wrong! You can play CDs directly through the Delta via Digital Audio Extraction. The OS will stream to digital data from the CD-ROM drive to the Delta card, and then the Delta will convert the digital data to analog and pipe it to the analog outputs. Playback will sound awesome through the Delta's DA converters (I have the 44) assuming you have decent speakers (I have a pair of Tannoy Active Reveals)
