Hey guys --
I recently got a pair of Yorkville YSM1p (active nearfield) monitors... I'm a real beginner with all this and am still getting my basic gear setup together. Well this morning everything was soooo nice and quiet and I decided to turn on my gear and play my keyboard a while.... no loud whirring of computers, etc... just the keyboard and my monitors.
To my surprise I heard a faint buzzing sound.... and it turned out to be my monitors!! It was definately "quietly audible" from a few feet away - with my ear to the side of it, it sounded like a small motor or transformer or something. It's not "noise" like you'd expect (I think) from speakers when you turn them up... it's literally buzzing. I figured there must be a power problem (my house sucks lol)... and I was right, sorta.... my livingroom ceilingfan light was causing the buzzing in the left monitor.... turned it off but the buzzing remained in the right monitor. I tried switching each monitor's power cords, had them unhooked from all other devices, tried in a different room of the house, even tried them on my (old but working) UPS battery.... the right one just won't stop buzzing. The setting switches/buttons/dials on the back of them are both set identically (though changing them has no effect on the buzzing anyhow). I could never hear it with the roar of my computer all the time, but with the room quiet I definately hear it.
So... what do I do? Is the monitor broken? Is it supposed to do that and I just didn't know it (again remember I'm a newbie)? I know these aren't top of the line monitors, but I'd at least expect them not to "buzz" for $450 lol.... would some kind of power conditioning device do the trick, or is this definately a problem in the monitor itself? Any advice at all would be great
Thanks!
