Well not yet, but the Dynaudio BM5a that I ordered are in. So I'm going to do a shootout tomorrow evening. I'm focusing my looking at the Dynaudios, KRK V6/V8, and Tannoy Reveal 5a.

I will post after to tell my findings. Is there anything that I should look out for?

My opinion on this whole monitor thing is in this range they are all good (not great, but good) and it's a matter of breaking them in and learning them.

I would make sure they are loud enough for you. The BM6A's are just loud enough for me, and they have twice as much power. They sound good through their full volume range, though. That is something else you should check--compression of transients and distortion at high levels.

I have heard that. I am going to mindfull of it. They also have ADAMS at the L&M I'm going to, I hope they don't try to oversell me 'cause they would probably win :)

The studio that I track at uses KRK V8's and Tannoy 800's w/Bryston power. I'll be using these monitors @ home for mixing and multi tracking. So I won't be going terribly loud anyway. Plus I've been working hard treating my room in preperation.

krk 8s

I've got the KRK RP8's
Expect to hear shit you've never heard in some of your favorite recordings.
Mouth noise, reverbs, etc. . .really frickin nice
I've got mine sounding better than the ones I tested @ GC

I ws running Tannoy Proto J's and a Hafler TA1600. But my TA1600 "crapped out". I ended up going w/ the Dynaudio's. I tried really hard to be impartial in the store. I listened to KRK V8, KRK v6, Tannoy reveal 6d, and BM5a.

I was listening through a Presonus Central Station. I found both KRK's to be lacking detail in the mids compared to the Tannoys or dyn's, and the studio I track in has V8's so I can reference my mixes there any time. But they are loud! I listened to the dyn's first and Tannoys second. I found them really close, but the Dyn's had a bit more detail. I think I would have been happy with the Tannoy's or Dyn's, but the dyn's just had a little more something.

As far as loudness of the Dyn's, I pushed the demo pair pretty hard, up until the red light came on (I think it is the amp overload light) and they are plenty loud for my room. I know what 85-95 db sounds like in my room, and these are plenty loud. Bass response is quite nice, I can hear what instruments are holding the bottom. I can hear the detail in the bass guitar, and the kick thumps nice. Granted, I wouldn't use these for hip hop/drum and bass, but for the rock/punk/metal stuff I work on they sound great. Now I don't want to lead anyone astray here, I think they only spec out to 50hz, so they do not pound the room or anything. But that being said I can hear whats going on down there, and I can tell that these speakers will reduce the amount of CDr trips out to the car.

So long and short I took them home for a little less than $1100 cdn and they through in a couple of mogami/neutrik xlr/trs 10'cables. So I think I did pretty good.

They are in my room right now, and I've been listening to my favorite music and some of my own mixes. The biggest thing I find is I can really hear subtle eq changes and I can hear the reverb/delay effect details and tails. All I can say is I'll be happy learning these monitors, and I think they will be used for many years.

Thanks for the report --- and the good attitude!

I'm sure you know that some around here think they have no more to learn. But you and I both know there's ALWAYS something new to learn and one lifetime is just not long enough to find it all...

Good luck with your new monitors!

Im also in the process of gettin some more monitors. I currently use the M-audio bx5's. I want to get the KRK V6's also but may have to settle for the KRK RP6s. Any big difference btw the V6 and RP6?

I've grown quite fond of the Dyna's. The bass response on that small of a speaker is very amazing. I'm also a fan of the M-Audio BX5's and 8's. I think M Audio is just putting out amazing products these days for dirt cheap. I'm not a fan of KRK monitors. They seem to me to have an airy or accentuated mid range. Maybe it's just the way my ears respond to them though.

803, I don't mean to question your decision too much, but I'd suggest trying your BX5s with a sub before tossing them aside. From what I've used and compared, the BX5s provide an excellent mid-high range when integrated with a sub. They even have the switch to allow for easy addition of a sub, which lets the BX5s focus on what they do best.

I've been using such a combo for a over a year now, and the BX5s really shine, actually sound different, when a sub handles the low end. You may want to at least give this approach a whirl. Just throwing a decent option into your mix.

There is a pair of KRK7000's for sale in the classifieds on this web site. In my opinion, the 7000's are the cheapest of the KRK models where the sound really changes and they actually start to become pretty nice monitors. I would consider themn a step up from the V range, and you do get a 7" woofer so possibly a better low frequency response. However, I think that the V6's may be tuned a little lower (like most newer monitors seem to be) so that may not hold true. If you can come up with or afford a power amp for them, I think the 7000's would be much nicer in the long haul than the new stuff you have been looking at.....

Not you though Lomke, I was referring to misscc803:)
