Fmmahoganyrush

Pleads the 5th...
I took all of the advise I've gotten from the responses to my posts here on mixing, sequenced drum sounds, soundcards, my attitude, etc., and probably completely f#^ked them all up. Anyway, I remixed the song "Thinking of You" and posted it at NowhereRadio(the second song):

http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/rockpop/fmmahoganyrush/

I checked out the lo-fi play, and it doesn't really do the mix justice. Hi-fi or download sounds much better, although my Delta 66 is enroute as we speak, so I'm probably going to scrap the whole thing and lay down the guitars & vocals from scratch. I also have an SPD-6 on the way, so the point & click drums will be a thing of the past, although I did try to improve on the exsisting drum track. The other song on the site, "Love Me 'till Labor Day", is next on the chopping block. Special thanx to Gidge, AlChuck, and everyone else who had a spare two cents to give. Let me know what you think so I can start the process all over again. Thanx, Tom. Sorry for the spelling errors (if any), as I didn't have time to check the post.

Tom, I didnt really have any cents to spare so can u let a brutha hold a few hens til payday.....

Seriously, I liked this new mix much more....much more dynamic...more spacious and airy....

Less reverb on the vocals (?) cleared it up a bit and taking that guitar part let the music build quite nicely....

Listening now I think I woulda did the keyboard part in stereo and then balance the synth pad opposite the hihat....

Well done....cant wait to see what you do with the Delta......

I wanna hear it, but can't get the hi-fi stream to work. And I'm not a "member," so can't get the download...

Nowhereradio's probably gonna have the stream up soon, I'll try again a little later...

Fmmahoganyrush,

The download permissions aren't set for 'everybody'.

In the artists menu (after logging in) you can go to 'upload' and click on the quil icon beside the song. Here you can turn 'allow all user download' on, and anyone can download it.

The 'members download' feature doesn't work since I haven't come up with a good secure download method yet... All in due time...

Streaming does work though, 100%

Lemme know if you hit any hitches

Heya, Waldo...

The problem I'm having is "Connecting to Server" and not connecting to the server. I also have this problem sometimes when I use Media Player to access iFilm, so it may not be something on your end. Hope the feedback helps!

Ok,

The drums: At first I couldn't tell if it was a machine or not, but when the open hi-hats were panned differently, it stuck out like a sore thumb. But, I just read that you'll be getting a machine, so that should help it. I'd try and stay clear of so much tom usage at the end....also the outro...whew...the guitars and drums are going overboard. Everything sound awash in reverb too. The vocals are the exception, but the guitar solo...total 80s power ballad vibe, but that may be what you were going for...not really sure. yea, the vocals are good, except on "just a little while"...it sounds like it's out of your (or whoever's singing) range. It sounds like the singer's struggling to hit it. If you drop the key a half a step, you should be able to belt out the vocals more powerfully. It would totally help them stand in your face. Um, other than those beefs, it's good. I'd like to hear it with the new vocals and drums that you say you're gonna do. Good luck with it.

Peace, love, and chicken,
Mike

Thanx for the help, again. It's nice to know that I can always count on this place!

Thanx to all who listened and posted thus far.

Gidge) Sorry, no hens to spare, but you can pet my rooster or choke my chicken anytime. Yes, less reverb on the vocals, and I'll be looking into the keyboard set-up and placement on the next mix.

Kelly) Yeah, you're a member alright, but that's another story. NowhereRadio should be set up for streaming and download to "non-members" now so check it out.

Waldo) Thanx, I think I have all of my shit in one sock now.

Mike) That Hi-Hat thing...WTF was I thinking, it'll be fixed one way or another, in the mix, or when I re-do the drums. The Toms... ...Yeah, kinda like 'Animal" from the Muppet Show. I'm trying to find a happy medium on the reverb thing. The Vocals & Guitar are going to be done over when I get my Delta 66 in the mail (a couple of days, I hope). This should clean everything up a bit. The tune was actually a practice run of the song (first take on everything) so I could at least listen to all the parts, and then make the necessary changes. I WILL hit the notes on the vocal track next time, and hold the long one at the end IN KEY. 80's power ballad... ...Believe it or not, that's what I was shooting for... ...Call me out-dated (wait'll you hear the 60's tune I'm working on - overdriven keys W/Leslie...Save your last hit of acid for this one:-) I will also try to control the leads at the end... ...I was just havin' so much fun I forgot what I was doing.

Thanx again. You guys are an invaluable resource for hacks like me. Tom.
