New microphone builds, recommendations?

I reversed the polarity on the capsule and the output was even worse, so I am pretty sure I had it right. What do you consider the power rail? Sorry, total newb on this. If it is what I think it is, I am around 5.5VDC. I also checked the phantom stright from the cable and it is about 47.5V.... so I know I am getting good juice from the preamp.

Chris: I looked through the Transound site for you and Looked through a Lot of the Different models and Tried to exclude the External Fet Models even though some of them have a better frequency responce but will be slightly harder to build (an extra Part), Most of these Have a Larger capsule than most omni"s and since they are Cardioids you should Suspend the Capsule so the sound isn"t deflected or muffled.....

also so you know All of these Capsules have a Higher SNR than the Panasonic Capsules (Which is Good) but the frequency responce isn"t quite as flat but still very Good, usually with a small Dip in the Lows and a Small Bump in the Highs....

These are the Best 2 I could find in the Cardioid models with an Internal Fet:

If you would like to try one with an External fet then look at this one:

But make sure you get the Models with Pins and not Solder Pads as the Pins are easier to work with.....

If you are looking for Mic Bodies I can hook you up with a few of the Cheap Plastic Mic Bodies that I use, They look like a Regular Mic with a Grille and everything they are just very Light weight because they are Hard Plastic and they come with a Cheapo XLR Connector and a Cheapo Mic cable(XLR to 1/4in) which you may or may not use....... They also allow you to mount the Capsule so that the Back isn"t totally closed off.....

Cheers

PS: Nice Looking PCB"s you got there MSH, Sure look a Lot better than the ones I made and about half the size...I might have to buy a couple from you at some point....

PS#2: Chris: what types of other Projects are you looking for?? I have some schematics and PCB designs for some Good Mic preamps (Tube and Solid State) and I am designing a Very Low cost Mic Preamp right now that also uses a very small PCB(4in x 2in) and after I have worked out the Bugs It might also be a Good project to try..I actually have Finnished my First Prototype of the Preamp but My Powersupply decided to die on my so I have to wait for some parts to fix it before I can test the Prototype....

Let me Know!!

Check the + pin of C1. If that is 5.5VDC, it should work fine, so I'd check the voltage on each pin of the FET.

This guy's claiming that it has an M7 capsule, but looking closer at the pictures it's an AKG capsule. The M7 is center terminated.

I wasn't telling anybody to buy a MagMic.

Just illustrating the idea.

Care to give me a link? Sounds exactly what I want. Thanks,
