HAILZ!!

Hey mixer guru's critique this freshly mixed metal tune. Its the first mix session since I got my RP-8's.

Please reply some constructive critisizm! Thanks!

I know i've listened to some of your other stuff but its been a while so I can't really make the comparison of whether it has gotten better or not.
The first thing that comes to mind is that the clean guitar is probably the brightest thing in the mix. I didn't really care for the tone but thats mainly personal preference. It also seemed louder than the distorted guitars which kind of kills the heavyness. My other complaint is that the drums didn't seem to occupy but one freq range. I know they are programmed/triggered or whatever but they could definitely be more full and up front in the mix.
Overall sounds like you have some cool ideas. Hopefully some others will chime in with some more experienced input.

Hey bro! Long time no see. Thanks for the input! I just wondered if you could expand on this a moment as I am a little what you mean. Thanks in advance!

You really need to work on the guitar recording. That is your biggest let down i would say. The guitar at the start cries out amatuer. It sounds like it need compressed or played more solidly. Play about with your guitar tones more.
Good luck.

You can hear slight cocks up on the intro guitar playing, that lets it down. The take isn't perfect. If you can redo that bit then redo it. It will make the whole track soung much more finished and professional. Otherwise the playing in the rest of the track is perfect, nice one.

As for mixing, I dont listen to metal so i can't really make many comments. Also i'm listening to it on crappy PC speakers. lol.

The drums sound really tiny. No real bottom or low end on my monitors. Thats just how it sounds over here, no one else commented on it so maybe it isn't a problem?

what is this, just a direct input guitar and a drum machine?

ID say its a problem also. the drums are very very thin, at times i thought it was a really fast guitar part doing up and down picking keeping rythm. no offense. In general they just sound like fake drums off a old casio keyboard.

the guitar parts (actually the whole thing)need to be rerecorded if you really mean to put this out to anyone. if its just experimentation at home for your own enjoyment then fine, no problem. There are alot of mistakes made by the guitarist just in the performance side of things. the tone sounds like its coming direct off a digitech multieffects pedal or something like that, acustic guitar has too much fret buzz, and the volume is not constant enough as if the player is hesitant in what he or she is playing.

the song is cool, just not the recording.

keep working on it man, you can do it.

Here is my signal chain. The drums are a software called PC drummer with all the samples I developed myself from accoustic samples.

The guitar is a bran new carvin dc127 with M22 pickups and blue steel strings. I am running into a carvin bel air 2X12 all tube and out of its direct voiced output through a presonus tube pre, into a tascam US-122. Tracking using Nuendo 2.0.

I sold my triple rectifier and stereo beta 57's or I wouldn't be asking for a critique! :P

Guys, on the drum tracks, is there anything I can do to avoid finding new samples? Because it sounds like you may be hearing "bad' samples here... I can upload just the drum track... maybe my EQ and such are off there...
Any thoughts?
