New here - Just wanted to say hello

Hey there everyone, I'm new to these boards... I find that what inspires me often to make music is listening to other bedroom-engineers as it reminds me how lazy I am being.. Writing and recording is by far my favorite hobby, and these boards seem great with how active they are.

I'll be honest, I don't enjoy much electronic music, ambient stuff, etc. unless the mood really strikes me. That being said I'll attempt to contribute when I do have something to say.

I started recording in college for fun about 7 years ago or so.. and I still do it for fun now. My mood changes a lot, along with what styles I like to play, so I never end up finishing anything. Hence my username.

I am quite a hard-head when it comes to the writing aspect of my songs.. as I'm sure most around here are. Then again, I've never gotten much critique since I rarely share it! I finally feel I am at the level where my voice has developed to its peak and I can play in time, which are some of the things that I struggled with the most over the years. (Especially the voice)

Here are a few pictures of my very modest setup.

Looking forward to contributing around here!

Cool, we can appreciate that. I look forward to hearing your work when you're ready to post. However, I am going to move this thread to the newbies forum. There is an introduction thread over there. The MP3 clinic is not really meant for introductions and there is much to be garnered from the other forums.

Welcome to the site. :)

Hello, my name is Michael. I have been playing music for 15+ years. We have made over 50 trips to the Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, Ohio for free student recording sessions. My bandmates and I are currently in the process of building our own recording studio in our drummer's basement. Besides floors and ceilings, we have most of the basic construction done, although the studio still looks like a war zone. I was hoping to find some advice on what types of components we may need to record a whole 4 -5 piece band (drums, guitars, bass, vocals). We are really set on using Pro Tools and a really nice Mac PC, but other than that, we are not 100% sure what types of of equipment or components we would need. We are shooting for around 16 track simultaneous recording and would prefer some type of hands-on interface. Any help would be much appreciated. Here are some pics of what we have done excluding the last week or so. Thanks in advance!

Old noob with a flute

Hello folks...KC here...or Kirby. Have worked primarily in I.T. and social services, but my health and approaching geezerhood have slowed me down. I've been fooling with a flute on and off for about 40 yrs and would like to try some very elementary recording worthy of a noob chimp. No formal instruction, can't read music and the extent of my recording has been a bottom of the line, velcroed on mic with battery powered amplification, using Audigy to add some flute to MP3z I've imported. Not too complicated, eh? I actually posted one of my first attempts at recording on YouTube. Since I'm not yet qualified to post links, you can find it by searching for "Pocahontas by Neil Young with flute" if you're so inclined.
Since this thread is primarily for introductions, can someone tell me where it would be more appropriate to post questions about recording equipment, software and such? Thanks...Kirby C

Welcome to the site. You're in Boulder. I hope all is going well despite the flooding in your area.

Look through the different forums and pick the most appropriate for your questions. When in doubt, just use the Newbs forum.

Have fun.

Kirby will have to do ... We all ready have a KC here.
Haven't seen him in a few months though - He became a dad a few weeks ago, for the first time.

Welcome a board matey.

Appreciate the comeback Chili...thankfully, I'm on relatively high ground and didn't have any flooding, but many areas had some of the worst flooding in recent memory. Definitely more rain in 2-3 days than I've seen in the 15 yrs I've been in Boulder...unbelievable. I'll eyeball the forums and try to find one appropriate for my questions...thanks again...Kirby

Hey, all. I'm a newbie. 61 year old folkie guitar picker who wants to record some tracks but has little experience with computer recording. I own an M-Audio (made by Avid) Fast Track USB which installs in my Win7 64 bit OS ok, but it isn't working with Audacity (event though it shows up when a device rescan is done.) So I'll need a bit of hand holding and lots of advice. The thing worked with the trial version of ProTools, but my pockets are much too shallow and my intellect is much too strained with anything that complex.

Hello:

I'm Jim (Pickinator). I play the drums, bass guitar, and synths/keys. I just bought 2 Fostex VF 160s. I am presently reading the impossible to understand manual. Standby for a zillion Qs.

Hello! I'm Cal, still a bit of a newbie when it comes to making music but I enjoy making old school hip hop beats! :thumbs up:

I'm Kurt, brand spankin' new to analog recording, don't even have the equipment yet. Teach me thy ways.

Hi there,
New to the forum, and pretty new to recording. I'm first and foremost an upright bassist for rockabilly, bluegrass, and other roots type bands, but I mess around with a lot of other instruments and genres as well. I have two recording projects currently; a death/gothic country band called Blacklung, and an as yet unnamed metal project. I'm running a macbook pro with pro tools 10, an mbox pro, various mics, a few midi controllers etc. I can handle the basics of recording, but I'm here to learn how to streamline my recording process, and learn tips and tricks. thanks guys
