Hey, my name's Sean, I'm a 31 year old guitar player and songwriter from New York. I bought a laptop that can ultra Oblivion, so I figure I should be able to get some decent recording done with it. I used to record on a 4 track analog machine. Never recorded digitally successfully. Hoping maybe a few people here can point me in the right direction.

Welcome Sean. I've not been around here for very long, but there are ton's of information here. But I do warn you, there are a lot of people that do expect a little effort on your part, so do some research, when you find software (DAW) you like, read the instructions, go to Youtube for 1000's of "how to" videos. I learned most of Ableton and Reaper (still learning) from youtube videos. Very good information out there.

If you need advice on sound, good mic choices, interfaces, the folks here will help guide you through the process.

I also suggest you go to the MP3 Mixing Clinic and listen. This will give you a good idea how good the people here are with home recording. There is a lot of talent and skill on this site. It will serve you well. A very good place to start your journey.

Welcome again.

Hey, I'm Nicholas, all the way from the Netherlands. I'm in a band called Sorry, Come Again (we're in iTunes, look it up!), being the pianist. We record all of our music ourselves, so I thought this site might have some tips I would've otherwise never thought of.

Hi, my name is Jess. I am 19 years old and living/going to school in Virginia. I am a current student of theatre with a concentration in stage management. I am just getting started with sound stuff. I am planning on putting together a portable recording studio for use with various things. Music, voiceovers, sound effects, pretty much anything.

Lenos here. New to the forum, moderate experience with Home Recording and sound in genreal. Mainly play drums in a Rockabilly band.
Hi.

Hi all.

I've been a 'hobby' drummer all my life and have played in a few local bands around some of the venues in the North West of the UK over the past 20 years or so.

I've also been songwriting on and off for 20 years, mostly for the bands I've been in and for a bit of fun.

Having recently learned the ukulele, I decided to put together a little recording setup to continue my songwriting, maybe record a few of my older songs and basically just have a bit of fun.

I'm a complete newb with the home studio stuff, so I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of daft questions ......

Hi -

I'm Dan, trying to put together an album of home recorded music whilst learning about mixing/mastering and gear. I took the recording side for granted and have only just started to properly research the recording/engineering side of things (which i know realise is a pretty major consideration). I've been reading forums and reviews, downloading PDF manuals and listening to sound samples for a while now, and hope to only post questions in forums in cases of dire confusion, or when scrolling through threads for info and ebay for gear has began to make me feel sick. Thanks!

Hi! I'm Francesco, I'm 18 and I'm from Italy. I'm here to let you know about my attempts in order to record my first EP (I'm a guitarist and a songwriter).

I'll open a thread with all my doubts inside :D

Excuse me for my English, but I'm Italian, you know, we're not very good in using other languages xD

See you soon :D

Hey, my name's Chris and the artist I'm managing, who's also using this account is Ted (Protocall). We're from a place cold in Canada. I'm (Chris) who's a huge fan of hip hop, rap and metal, and have been in the IT industry for the last 7 years, while my buddy Ted has been making music for the last 2 years and we're both working towards spreading his music, while also using this site as a resource for mixing, mastering and general music production. I'm looking forward to getting a lot of useful advise and feedback on all the music we're making!

Hello, I'm James and I've been invited to join here from another forum, of which I belong to about 10-12.

Having turned professional in 1983 at the age of 21 - I'm now 51 & I'm an admitted GEAR SLUT!!! - with far too much stuff, including way too many VSTs.

I started buying gear at the age of 16, and although much of it has come & gone, I have still purchased quite a bit even this year, as well as the last few years. For an example, I have bought 13 keyboards over the years, with 4 of them still here.

I made my living for most of the '80s playing Piano/Vocal 6 nights a week in Vancouver, BC, and surrounding areas, just before the whole 'Karaoke phase' came in & knocked most of us out.

I now have a home studio, as millions of us do now, and also play V-Drums, Guitars & Bass.

I have 4 - yup - count 'em - 4 DAWs now, although 2 of them are brand new to me.

Am I crazy or what??? :o

Anyway - here I am.

Thanks for the invite, as that has me feeling welcome already! :D

Hey friends! I'm a newbie to this forum, but not to forums in general. Up until now I've mostly posted in gun forums (I know, right?) but I figured I should spend a bit more time getting involved in the community of people who actually do what I do for a living!

My name is Ryan, and I own Auralaxiom productions. I'm a gigging musician (I play sax, oboe, tin whistle, keys, and vocals) but have recently broken into engineering, mixing, mastering, and most fun of all: film score composing!

Hello Everybody

My name is Aaron and I have had some post production experience way back in the late 80's and early 90's.

Recently my church decided that the sound system that the church had needed to be replaced. Decided means that the old one died and something had to be done. I heard issues with the sound and gave some insights to them and was told everything was fine. After they blew the speakers I was asked to come in and help out. After finding out that the installers knew nothing to begin with and did a total crap install. I was then asked to take the position of head of the department.

I only currently have book knowledge as I had to go learn everything I could for live sound. I am told that everyone is now happy with the way things are going and are adding more to do.

I found this sight several months ago and love the info here. Most of the people are informative without being condescending. Most add to to other posts. this site has helped me more then others. My first post is going extremely well and about how I had hoped it would go after all the reading I have done.

I really want to thank you for a gret site and the wonderful attitude here.

Thanks
Aaron Cissell

I am not really new... but hello I'm Bogey (aka Andrew). I've posted here before... but people seem to notice me when I'm posting, then forget me. I guess it's time to make you notice again. But what's the point

Hey - a belated thank you Jimmy.

Because I posted in a few other places around these forums, I plum forgot to check back here until today.

Anyway, there's definitely lot's to check out among these forums - much more variety here.

So thanks again.

Oh, and I too am looking forward to hearing my stuff as well - someday soon I hope. :o

But...I had some time today, had Cubase open and finished the tutorials I was watching, so on to the next step! :thumbs up:

Quite impressed with many of the advanced features I've now been shown.

So it's all good.

Have another piece of gear coming soon, as well as the few that just arrived.

I did mention that I'm a gear slut, didn't I?

You didn't have to. We all are to some degree. I have around 3G's in this month. Now looking into upper level monitors. YAY! :)

3G's? I think I'm pretty close at about 2G's - at least in the last few months.

But I guess we couldn't really be here without all being gear sluts to begin with, huh?
