It's been a while- some sudden health issues that have resolved, thankfully. but, yes - the d16xd seems to do just fine without the cooling fan. it works well. today i have replaced the 8 input expansion with the 2 input tube expansion and i hope that will still work well. i have put the 8 input expansion into my d32xd and i have replaced the fan. (i think the d32xd actually does need a fan. it has a double power supply, comparted to the d16xd. or could ot be the tube expansion that needs some extra coolong and should i pay more attention to the d16xd now? anyway - i have doubts about the way i put the alt cooling fan in. i will have to check that.....
My D16XD has the tube pre-amp fitted. All works fine.
I think the tube may work as a cold cathode.
I sketched out a circuit diagram for the module (somewhere).
Tap the signal path just before the converter, and the module could be used stand-alone.
I have a spare tube module.

you might have guessed by now, i know nothing about electronics. i had a d16xd with 8 input expansion and bought a d32xd with the tube expansion. that one suddenly stopped and went into standby, the 2nd day i used it. with a lot of noise from the speakers. after a while i started it up again. this happened again the next day. and in the end i got a psu failure message at start up. the fan in that d32xd had been replaced and got its power from the harddisk (a big one!) with some components added in between, one might be a capacitor. i removed that, replaced the cooling fan with one i know that would work, connected it as its originally meant to be connected. cut out the extra components and put in the 8 input expansion instead of the tube amp. it seems to work fine now. then i tried replacing the expansion and it worked fine but after 5 or 10 minutes, the sound on one of the channels was lost and now there's a lot of noise when i put the volume up. this might have started after it had warmed up, like after 5 or 10 minutes. also, i remember this occurred beffore, after i had had the first meltdown and the d32xd going to standby with a bang (from the speakers.) could it be something has been damaged when the machine suddenly stopped earlier on? like maybe a tube? it's a shame, i like that board and would prefer it over the 8 input board.

Hey I'm new here! My username is COOKI CHREME (like cookies and cream) I wouldn't call myself anything but a lover of music. I can feel the music emotionally and mentally it empowers me to become more creative through singing, dance, and even art. I love singing but everyone tells me I'm not very good at it or should have vocal lessons. I've tried everything (except paying for vocal lessons) but I recently started singing online and people have told me I'm very good at singing and even voted me very highly in a karaoke game. I'm so confused! I don't even have a good mic, auto tune, filters, or anything, I just sing. Please tell me what this could be.

Thanks, CHIPS.

i am sorry, i keep forgetting this is not the right thread for these posts. my bad. anyway - i took the korg apart yesterday and re-assembled it. then it worked. this morning no problems, everything worked well, including tube expansion. so.... thanks.

New/old member - used to hang here 20 odd years ago when Dragon ran the place.

Retired awhile back and built up a mostly ITB studio to play around in.

I used to spend tons of money on guitars, but these days it’s VSTs - mostly pianos, orchestras, and fretless basses.

My musical interests are all over the place.

i don't know any of your musical inspirations, have heard of harry styles - who seems to me a would-be bowie ;-) but then again i am 65 and it must be great being a 20year old drummer piano player and singer. enjoy!!
Haha thanks for the reply!

New to the forum? Say hello, tell us a little about your self. Meet the gang :p

Welcome to HomeRecording Forum! :guitar:
Hi everyone!! I'm AC and I'm attempting to learn how to create, record and produce mainly electronic/synth/experimental sounds. All of this is very new to me. Currently working my way through Reaper as my DAW. Also fumbling my way around understanding various Korg Volcas, the MicroKorg and the KP3 (will upgrade to the KPV hopefully soon). Thanks for the add, hope to chat with you guys soon!

Is there anyone that mix their home studio with a record studio?

Hi All, looking forward to being a part of this community. If I have a technical question that's essentially, "Has anyone run into this before?", which forum/subforum would be the best place to post it? Thanks!

Never feel comfortable with this. I'm not new to music, just this forum. Classically trained pianist from young age, not skilled or attentive (ADHD) enough to be a concert level player. I wasn't exactly devastated at that but the school I attended had turned some out, as well as music professors.. Turned electronic composer, and paid dues playing rock/blues in bars all along the Chitlin' Circuit while in undergrad at Ole Miss while studying philosophy and physics during the week. The "weekend warrior" if you will. What fun. Maintained home studio for many many years, now looking for highest iteration ever. Burl Mothership and Apogee are great converters and I like using them. Looking for an SSL XL-desk to mix on. I use Reason to write and Pro Tools to track. Not too elaborate on outboard though I do very much like the Altec Green Face preamps for that Class A crispy clean no caffeine sound. Published author of several books on Amazon, Podcaster on Philosophy and Physics. Married to an incredible Italian lady. Mississippi native but live in Dallas Metro, better for trading stocks and book career. Pardon if this seems bawdy or showy, not the intent. That's essentially scratches the surface. I'll not talk about the French Aristocracy.

Welcome BaronEstelle! You have a lot of pedigree there.
Bought my XL-Desk new a year ago, but looks like they are discontinued now.
I'm impressed with it. Very versatile.
The last second-hand one I saw was going at £7000 (empty). They are out there.

The Newbie forum catches a lot of topics, so sometimes someone looking for info on certain issue might miss that thread. There are company specific Subforums for hardware, Zoom, Tascam, Alesis, Boss/Roland, and software, ProTools, Cubase, Reaper, Ableton, etc. which might be more appropriate.

I think many regular users click on "New Posts" which will show new posts in all the forums. Hence you will probably get a response.

For someone looking for specific info on a particular piece of hardware or software, they may just go to that specific area, which means they would miss anything posted in the Newbie topic, or maybe the Digital Recording and Computers forums. Someone looking at topics in the Zoom forum would likely never see your post about the H6studio power draw.

If you have a question regarding specific hardware or software, or a technique, simply look over the list of topics and choose one that seems appropriate.

Thanks for the heads up. I went with the Newbie forum, only because the Zoom forum seemed a bit quiet...

Thank you Sir Raymond. I'm seeing them used from $12K USD on up. The new one's come unloaded for 20K, Half loaded for around 26K, and the fully loaded for #30-32K. This eeks into Origin 16 territory but the origin is still teething and the XL is well established. It's also consistent with their older build setup, whatever that was. I just like the XL better basically, with 44 inputs at mixdown it's perfect to use with a DAW and an X-rack for mic-pres and things. Over here we see 4056E/G's and 4064 XL9000's in the 50's and 60K range. It would be incredible to have one of those jacuzzi console monsters. That's what I'd do, I'd set up a jacuzzi right next to it so my wife and I could get out cuzzi on then just step out of the jacuzzi and start mixing. That's the thing to do. I do have the SSL X-rack but it's gnarly confusing to figure out so I haven't even bought a single card for it after ten years. Those things aren't cheap. The word is you can essentially reproduced a 160 channel 9000 SA console with these things, but that
would be one expensive console. I'd like to have 8 channels with EQ to augment something that needed augmenting with SSL. Since I've had the Burl Mothership it's gotten to the point where the sound quality is beyond what I'd ever heard anywhere in the home arena so I have to look beyond to the higher shelf stuff to be able to keep or else build out a way to have that quality from end to end. They call it expensive if nothing else.
