Honestly, I think what might be best is to save the "Piece of Cake" for #2. Here's why: a screwed up tune will give everybody a chance to build some confidence making changes that are easy to identify. Then after everybody gets some experience, they might be better able to find nuances in a really good performance. Would that also give you time to finish the backing vocals?

What do you think?

Ok then.
Ill post you a link to something challenging.
Shall i post it as a wav file then?
Also should i post it as 24bit, and the original sample rate (44.1)?

All sounds good :)

Yes, it should be a wav file. Either 24 or 16 bit would be fine in my opinion, although it should probably be stipulated that the final master should be 16/44.1k.

Agreed.

(10 char)

TOTALLY disagree here. I think it should be 22,050 at 8-bit. By the way... can anyone tell me why my mixes suck?

:) ;)

Bump...

Any updates?

Well it's almost ready to go . . . things are looking good, but it's not gonna drop until after the holidays. Look for it early in Jan. Sorry, with my travel schedule I wasn't able to pull it off sooner

I've got Massive & Dogman confirmed as judges (still, I hope :o ), I forgot to ask one other judge, but I'm doing that now :o NL5 volunteered as usual to host, that's a big help and a great service he provides to us HomeReccers

The tune is a Dogman collab with some other members, I like it because it's wide open, there are a lot of things that could be done, but nothing necessarily that HAS to be done, so I think it will be open to lots of subjective interpretation :)

xfinsterx is also very interested in supplying us material, and has a track pending for #2, so I think we'll have a great new series!

In the meantime, Happy Christmas and/or Merry Holidays to all!

I haven't kept up with the whole thread, but here's an idea. It might be best if the judges don't know who belongs to which submissions. Not necessarily because they don't like so and so, I'm sure they can rise above that, but because in some cases they may be aware of what equipment or techniques so and so uses, and this may subconsciously prejudice them. So maybe someone should act as the conduit, receiving the submissions, assigning them a number, and forwarding them to the judges/posting them by number only.

Just a thought,
RD

Thanks MS for the updates and the work in orchestrating this guy!

Looking forward to learning...

I second this notion. Or are none of the big-shots entering?
