Well I'd be happy to submit a mix just to see what could be done but I don't want to even attempt to judge. Hell, I'm still learning how to mix! And I don't think my ears are good enough at this point to judge a decent mastering job. My monitors are good though (Wharfie's) and I have a decent 2.1 system with a sub for reference. And being that I'm taking care of an 81 year-old Mother with Alzheimer's it's hard to find the time to record/mix much less have the time to listen to a bunch of submissions, so I'm pretty much out as a judge. If you still want me to submit a mix, let me know and I'll PM a link to you.

Sure, send me a PM.

7, my friend, I'm behind you. Mine is 84. She's just in the first stages, but with a laundry list of other health problems already in full swing, it's already a full-time job and getting ready to go into time-and-a-half. My best to you and your mom. :)

OK, I still need judges. xstatic, ds21, y'all are high scorers in the PMCs. Any interest? Glen, any mastering guys? If you read a PMC thread, you'll see it's long on learning and short on judging.

In looking for tracks, does anybody mind another metal contest, right after PMC #12?

Thanks, G! She's also dealing with diabetes and just had cataract surgery and, like yours, has a myriad of things that I have to deal with. She's well into the dementia stage. Between working with my online sites and Mom PLUS my 16 year-old son moving in with us last year, I have my hands full. I'm only able to get on this board once, MAYBE twice a day! ;)

My best to you also, my friend!

Why not recruit John (Massive) and a couple of the other mastering guys that make their living doing it? They would be the most qualified and if nothing else, they could give practical advice and it would keep them from entering the contest. ;)

Yeah. mine's also got the diabetes, and has added a leaky mitral heart valve, chronic gout, high BP and fused vertibre to the list over the past few years. No dimentia here yet (knock wood); she may not even be into real Altzheimers, but certainly the mind is noticably going even if it is just "normal" aging.

This is why I work out of the house and have the project studio set up; I have her living with me now and keep an eye on her during breaks, or at least an ear on her while I'm typing in here. ;) It's not a lot of money, but it helps pay for her prescriptions at least.

Peace,

G.

I already knew that I wasn't alone in this world but it's nice to 'know' I'm not alone!

In defense of the PMC's, they are not true "contests". There is a winner, but it is all good natured, with the main focus being improving EVERYBODY'S mixes. Everyone critiques mixes, gives advice/pointers.

I must say too, that the quality of the mixes has improved remarkably. :D

Thats precisely the point.
The prizes are only there for a touch of motivation.
Now cummon Glen how is that corrupt  :D

Cool, Cool idea

Allrighty! :D
I just read through the whole thing and Wow!
Looks like weve got some fairly good interest, not to mention opinions about this mastering colaboration.

I think its a great idea!
And its a great way to help de/mystify the mastering process a bit more.
I dig it.

Damn right! :D

We doin Prizes? or did you guys agree that would make it too corrupt or whatever?

I suggest someone put up a manley slam as first prize ok? :p

Maybe there should be a poll to determine if this is a competition or a "study".

I would be happy to help out either way, but have finals for two courses and will be listening to over 30 mixes starting next week. I'm gonna need a break after that ...

Ill tell you the bummer thing about this!

The best judges for each and every contest (on not...whatever) Would obviously Be Scrip and Volpicelli. Or definetly Blackwood, but he hardly ever hangs out around here.

However you could never expect either of them to commit to judging 40 different masters. It just wouldnt happen. And i completely understand.
But wouldnt it be nice if one or both of them agreed to be the judges! :D
Think of how much you learn!!
