Yeah I did a search, and there was a joke one put up where everyone tried to clip as much as possible.

Are you referring to the RMS Rumble? In fact, it was specifically forbidden that ANY gain automation be used!

Yeah, that was fun :D

Perhaps the contest should consist of several tracks, maybe 3-5. Each track would have a different challenge, and each "masterer' could chose to master any or all of the tracks.

if you entered (or judged!) PMC #12, you've heard the song a few times. I've listened to it probably close to 200 times

Yeah, true that....

"You clone (you fucking clone)...Circle..... become... the....arc....."

We just need to have several contests :D

P.Mast.Comp. vol. 1-10.

My preference would be one track. And to be honest is about all that I would have time for personally. 3-5 tracks*x engineers would be a bit overwhelming I think, especially having to listen to all of them.

Brad B's forum has something called WOMP that's essentially a mastering contest as well. I think that some of his rules would be a good guideline.

I never could understand those lyrics :o

I was about to ask Chris for the lyrics 'cause I'd listened to it so many times without being able to understand them I think I was making up my own towards the end. :D

How about a MacGyver Mastering Contest? You get a magnifying glass, a blank CD-R, an Alesis 3630, and a roll of duct tape :p

G. Do you have any mixes that you would like to contribute? I would like to hear your work.
Well, the only stuff I have right now that is in my posession and that I *might* be able to get permission from the artist to distribute (Damnit, Jim, I'm a mixer, not a musician! :D) is some stuff that I mixed this summer by a local artist that did all the tracking himself and all direct (electronic drums and drum samples, electric guitar direct through a Line6 Pod, digital keyboards direct, etc.) As, such the source tracking from which my mixes are made isn't exactly BBC quality. ;) On the one hand, that could be a nice challenge, but on the other hand it's kind of polishing a flawed stone.

I wonder when the last time was that somebody actually used their Swiss Army Knife as a knife? :)

I used the plastic toothpick in mine to set ribbons in mics. Seriously, it is the perfect tool for that :o

Are you guys looking for stuff that is recorded on hi-end gear, or more from a homerecording standpoint? Well mixed, or half-assed? Is this something that us people with no mastering knowledge can play in? :D

I use the scissors as nail clippers.....yes, my nails aren't perfect looking, but they stay short :D

dude i'm totally in.

here's what I think. the mix should be average to good but not great. the 'client' should basically be asking to make their okay mix be sellable to the public and play on a lot of systems and perhaps radio. the file format isn't too important but 20/44.1 or 20/48 should be enough, right? the entires should be in .wav format because not all mp3 converters are equal. we could pick best overall and most creative master. or turn each entry into a poll.
