Here is a photo of a new desk I designed and built.
The monitor shelf and desk top shelf were less than $50 and the rest is 2X6's and such so the cost is well under $100.
It's still a work in progress but I will get it on my website with my other DIY stuff as time allows.
Sorry for low-res grainy photo:(

i like this.

hey the price is right(about 500 dollars cheaper than something from sweetwater) and it looks pretty sturdy. kinda inspires me. congrats.

Yeah, that looks real nice and fairly simple to make, too. Thanks for postiing the pic, I just might build something like that.

just went to your site and checked out the monitor stands you built too.

You do nice work.

Lemme buy ya a beer. ;)

And It Comes With A Lava Lamp

Actually, to use a well worn phrase, "function over form", or looks for that matter. For those who are simply interested in getting a system or environment to work for you rather than have a polished, slick & laminated look, this does the trick.

I actually popped in here today to get some ideas for a studio/garage conversion I'm getting ready to begin and you've inspired me. I was debating whether or not to splurge on a more "professional" look but realize I don't need all that fancy schmancy stuff. Put the money into the equipment instead stupid! I could upgrade my cables with the money I save doing it this way.

And I know how to use a hammer and saw so this is great. And the nicest thing about this approach is that no matter how the construction turns out, you can custom fit this furnuture, stands & racks to fit the room exactly. Thanks for posting this, your timing couldn't have been better.
Cheers,
Steve

Thanks, Steve!
I actually think this design has function AND form.
Nice styling but done with with simplicity.

You are absolutely correct in that it can be built in a "fit to size" manner"
I was initially thinking 4 ft desk top with 5 ft monitor shelf but found I could go bigger.

Once the weather gets nice here in Central Illinois, I'll paint portions of it and polyurethane the desktop and monitor shelf.
Might also get the router out and soften some edges.

Of course, the lava lamp was a no-brainer. ;)
