Ok John, please help me out here (anyone else is welcome for opinions). Im moving the studio to a new location. I will have the max space of about 25ft by 15 ft. I want the split these rooms so i can have a control room. I was thinking of making the control room about 5-10 feet. If i made the control room 10ft then the recording room would be perfectly square. As far as acoustic treatment, im planning on using the traps at http://www.ethanwiner.com/basstrap.html that is if i can get the money to build all of the pannels. I want half of the room to be pretty controlled and dead, and the other side live (do you recommend this?). I would also like to treat the control room. I am also planning on building a closet in the control room to store mics and stuff. There will be a window from the control room to the recording room but there will not be a door to deal with between the two rooms.

What i want to know is placement, placement, and qantity of the traps i would need from that website to keep a decently controlled room. Like i said, i was thinking about keeping one side of the room live for drums and stuff, but i dunno, im not expert on the subject.

Thanks for the help everyone.

hmmm

i might need to use a little cheaper bass traps then the ones i posted above. Any ideas for cheap but effective bass traps? Im lost...

Anyway, ill post what i already have for absorbtion. Ive got 3 4x7 ft pannels with 2 inch foam on it. I can take this off the pannels and cut it as needed. I was thinking of doing a checkered type thing. I also have 4 of those bass trap cans. I would like to use something a little more proffesional looking but i dont wonna spend a whole lot of money. Ive also got a ton of mono foam that i use for a little isolation in some intruments.

Thanks, let me know what you think.

well no one has been replying. Heres my ideas on the deal. I might put the Ethan Winer basstrap things behind me in the control room. I might put one at the other end of the recording room but i dunno if i can afford it with all the other construction i need to do. I will use my Bass trap cans in the corners of the room. I think im going to cut my foam into 2ft square pieces, mount them on a wooden frame, and put them into checkered triangle designs sticking out of the wall (or something similiar) and leave the back wall live. Then for the ceiling, ill get R20 foam, and use burlap to drape down everyfoot that i hope will help with diffusion also. Any opinions or ideas would be great.

Thanks,

Darnold
