I can see the advertisement now.....

"For the guitarist who has EVERYTHING...
..............The new POD!!"

I think I'll keep my old, original "Po' folk POD", Thank you.

Does anyone know what you get for $500 extra dollars that you don't get with the original POD...besides rackmount capability?

i guess the guys over at line 6 heard one guy too many guys say "In my opinion, they don't charge enough for it" and decided to charge enough for it..

Well, that's 800 Retail. I predict about $350-400 by the time it comes out. I see they offer a Bass Amp POD too. (I might be interested in that. I've had megahassles with my bass amp.)

XLR outputs, and amp/POD tone changability might be nice. I'd just appreciate a chance to get some decent clean/distorted control. My POD floorboard won't let me go from clean to distorted. It only does shades of distortion or a boost. No "Smells Like Teen Spirit" dynamics there!

Yea, i was kinda hoping for line 6 to release an updated pod thats about the same price but eliminated the need for midi. and of course for cheaper...keep dreaming i guess

Need for midi? There is no need for midi... I hope that hasnt kept you away from it...

The POD I bought only shows its real colors when hooked up to a MIDI port for fine-tune control of the features. But it's still quite useful without that capability.

You don't need the midi but it totally expands your options. Hell, I run the soundiver on my crappy computer (think: Commodore 64 almost) and the tweaking is great. Plus being able to download zip libraries is really good for patches you might notta thought of. i found some "Beatles" patches that set me off in a whole new direction. Have fun! At $300 this thing is amazing. Just be warned that some dinos out there will rip on it, but F 'em. I like how it sounds with all my guitars and I have no wherewithall to own a fraction of these sounds out of vintage amps. I A/B'd some twin patches with my real '65 twin and like them as good--plus I don't have to hassle with mic and room bummers. Mind you, I never tried it live but the POD shines in a small recording situation.

This from a fella who talked with disdain about digital modeling and midi...I think the POD is a great value--even moreso if you can use its midi "deep editing" or whatever they call it.

hey ree..or someone... can you elaborate on the downloading of zip patches.. like where did you find them and how do they work ?

re: Line 6 POD (for guitar)

I was thinking of getting one of these. I read an article today that highly reccommended it. The article said the only drawback to the POD was noticable background hiss. Has anyone had a problem with this?

Hmmmm,
I use the POD every day... I cant seem to remember if it hisses or not...
Strange!

Won't let you go from clean to distorted? Is this a limitation of POD or of your particular foot controller? I've been looking to buying a POD but probably won't buy it if I'm not going to be able to use it live.

How well does it work live?
