Hello =] I got directed here from WCReplays.com, I am currently working with a singer on a song.

The lyrics are done, the way it should be sang is done (recording sent), Only problem now is the instrumental part is needed for her to sing.

I am currently considering my options.
- My computers upstairs so digitally recording it from my piano is a little bit tricky since my piano is downstairs.
- I was thinking about getting a laptop with the microphone to try that but, quality becomes an issue.
- Then thought about using a tape recorder and transfering it onto my computer by (some sort of line cable? not sure how that is done)

Any ideas? I haven't been able to find a digital recorder at any stores.

P.s. Are custom avatars allowed?

To me the easiest solution seems to be:

Get a long mic cable and have a friend move the mic(s) around and play while you monitor until you get a good sound. It's not ideal, but it seems easier than everything else you mentioned.

That's good advice. I agree that a long mic cable run is your best method. Sounds from your post like you already have an audio interface to your existing computer. You'll just need to use balanced mic's and standard XLR cables. You can link XLR cables together and go hundreds of feet with no problem. Better to have the computer out of the recording room anyway... no cooling fan or hard drive noise. My own recording room is about a hundred feet from my gear/monitoring room and long mic cable runs work well for me.

They don't sell XLR cable. Are you using a low-Z, balanced mic? For this kind of stuff you have to get it through a retailer selling audio recording gear... Musician's Friend, ZZounds, Sam Ash, B&H, etc. Just google XLR cable. Markertek is an excellent cable supplier.

Yeah, I would definitely go with using a long mic cable run, that would be the easiest. If this is an overdub, you would also have to consider a headphone run, as well. Unless of course this is the first track you are laying down, then it is not a problem.

Yeah, but you need 250 posts, or to have been a member for a year, I believe. Something like that.

I use wireless headphones. Practical and nice to be free of the tether also.
