Hey guys and gals, it has been awhile since I have posted here. I've been working on an album for my project called "Chaosphate". The album is basically done, just doing the final mixing and what not. The project is me, a singer, and another guitar player. I do some of the singing too. Anyway, take a listen to this and let me know what you think:

Die For You (MP3 128Kbps)

Very nice raunchy guitar sound.
I definitely like the production and performance

The playing is good but the mix needs work. Everything is jumbled together. There is no definition between the instruments. The singer sounds like he is standing 30 feet behind the guitar player. The drums are muddy and need some EQ to bring them out.

I actually don't mind the faraway vocals on this. They kind of fit the song to me.
I agree that the instruments sound somewhat jumbled. Maybe EQ those guys out of each others zone some, create more separation.
Tight playing.
The mix on just these headphones sounds like it could use a little more low end.
Very cool sounding break at 2:30
Tight man ;)

What kind of difference should I have between the EQ on the lead and the rhythem guitars? I cut at 100hz, 800hz, and boost at 3khz, and 7khz for my rhythems... I'm going to try to give each instrument a little more space on the EQ spectrum tonight and see what that does for it.

Die for You remixed (128Kbps MP3)

Alright, I tried some seperation on this. I notice now the bass seems to stand out more. Do the drums sound better? Also the original link is up top to do a comparison.

Ocnor, do you just think the singer has too much reverb on him or just not loud enough? If the drums still sound muddy, any recomendations?

Snakedog, did it sound like on the last mix that the guitars were eating up to much? I think I had too much boosted on everything on the original mix.

I agree with Ocnor. Seems to be a lot of stuff taking up space. Not a bad tune, just sounds a bit jumbled. How are things panned here? You have some good sounds, just some clutter. I think the guitar is stepping on the drums somewhat. Maybe dry up the vocals just a little. They sound kind of cool with the far away verb stuff, but maybe try and bring them in a bit.
The 2:30 break is cool, and then the way you bring the guitars it really showcases them.

The drums seem to be lacking air which makes them sound sort of cardboard-ish. Try boosting a little in the 2k-10k range. The snare needs to come up a bit.The kick is a little too loud. You need to balance it's volume with the bass guitar until they sound almost like one instrument. Cut the vocal FX by about half. The rhythm guitars are stomping on everything so bring them down a couple of DB. This song is gonna sound good once it is tweaked out.

I pan my rhythem guitars hard right and hard left so they sound nice and big. Other than that, the rest is pretty much centered. I do add width to the final mix that puts the higher frequencies more outward and the lower frequencies inward...

Also, maybe I am pushing the limiter too much at the end of the mix.

I think I need to make the cymbals more defined too. I'm not sure if I should compress them or just EQ them.

Die For You Remix Version 2

This time through I used a multiband compressor on all the drums. I also cut some of the guitar at 7k to let the drums high end come through. Also upped the 100hz on bass and 400hz. Lowered the "wet" mix on the vocals. Let me know what you think.

Die for you remix 3

Alright, I think I now the drums stand out and are much more clear. Actually once I took care of the drums and guitar, it just sounds so much more clear. Also, the cymbals are much more defined.

Also, I didn't boost as much on the limiter, so it wouldn't squash some of the goodness... It sucks that there is the "louder is better" attitude amongst the public.

All the different mixes can be downloaded. I think this one will probably be my final, although I'm not sure if I should add some more low end to it, mainly bass guitar, I think it sounds good... I just want everything to sound good on the CD cuz there are actually people that want to buy a copy when I get the discs all duplicated and put in their packaging.

Best so far, dude. Much cleaner sounding. Vocals could be brought up a bit more, but sound much better now.

I'm gonna try to level out the vocals tonight. I'm actually pretty darn happy with this last mix.

Yes, less effects on the vocals helped a lot I think. Overall that last version is much better, you're close to packaging...! :) Personnaly I don't like the vocal parts at the 2/3 of the song (with only clean guitars and the vocals) sounds cheezy to me.

The other singer actually likes the intense reverb on it. Alot of people actually liked the clean guitar/vocal part in the song. Much like everything else, all opinion but I listen to all opinions especially on the mixes.

Also, I just sold a bunch of the plugins I was mixing with and splurged on the Waves Platinum Bundle, used though, saved $500. Even though the bundle is pricey, it comes with alot of stuff and alot of good stuff. I'm really happy with it.
