Do a lot of reading before buying anything - there are tons of choices, depending on your needs and budget.

why dont u research up the schedule on google before making any type of purchase here, i am sure u would get a simplified solution to it....

I find cubase more friendly with Midi and programmed drums compared to Pro Tools - but logic excels with MIDI too. Although Pro Tools has editing covered very well. So it's pretty much six of one - half a dozen of the other no matter what you choose. Find the one most affordable for you at the time and that you find most user friendly and run with it.

I bet the guy you know who's stuff sounds incredibly good is not due to gear - always remember the sound and the performance trump all. If you've got a good sound and something worth recording it doesn't really matter what software you use to record. Get it right at sound source, at that moment, and you won't have to worry about what gear you're using at all.

If the guy you know is a close friend, you might want to duplicate what he has. Having someone you can talk to directly would speed up the learning curve. It would also allow for easy collaboration as you would both be familiar with each others rig. You could assist each other and learn together....olduncledino
