Depends on how handy you or your dad are and what tools you already have. Have him take a look at the link and go from there. There are basic prices there for you. Your first task will be the finding availability of the rock wool or OC 703 in your area. 8 lb rock wool is cheaper but works just as well. Shipping costs more than the material itself. Google insulation suppliers in your area to find it. Home improvement stores will not have this.

Well i got the handy part down lol. Ok well thank u for all ur help dude!

+2 for acoustic treatment.
I have a fader port, and it makes everything way more convenient. But acoustic treatment is waaaaaaayyyy more useful, important, convenient and necessary. I know its hard to buy boring thing over shiny buttons and knobs.. but trust me, treating you room is something you NEEED, no matter how hard core you are.

occasionally ppl ask me to mix their songs
Def going to need some acoustic treatment if you plan on mixing anything...Yea it is kind of expensive, but it's one of those things where after you get it you realize how very much you need it.It's not like an instrument, where you want and are excited to get it, so you run out and buy it. But it is definitely needed and you will greatly appreciate it once you have it. The 703 stuff is really good but really expensive. I use Auralex and it works fine for me. Try to find it used...

Any places besides tge obvious ebay to get it used?

Used absorption panels? Can't say I've ever seen them. Craigslist can be great for used gear.
