New equipment but need help w/ connections..

Well as of today I'm a new owner of a BERINGER UB1204-PRO(MIXER) along w/ a DBX 266XL COMPRESSOR. I need to know how to hook up all these two products together along with my DIGI 001. Well, I do know that my mic goes to my mixer and from there I'M LOST!!! Please assist me if possible and be specific because I'm new to this whole new language of studio vocabulary. Thanks to all!!!!
 
Even though I'm a Avowed Behringer Mixer Hater, I'll try and give you some assistance.

You can connect the DBX into a channel insert for single track proc'ing or into the boards Main Inserts for 2-track mixdown proc'ing.

To connect into a particular chan insert, you'll need a "Y"send/recieve,TRS cable (2-unbal'd, 1/4" plugs with a balanced 1/4" plug). Connect the bal'd plug(jack with 2 black stripes) into a channel insert, then connect the Send/Ring plug to
the input of the DBX and the Return/Tip plug to the output of same into channel 1!
Try that 1st and see if it woiks!!

Lol I feel ya!! But money is tough right now ya know, i really wanted to scoop a Mackie but didn't have the funds. Anyways thanks tho, finna try that rit now!!!
 
You know what? I just realized this mixer doesn't come with insert channel inputs. So is there another way I could hook up my compressor to this mixer or I'm better returning this mixer and purchasing one with channel inserts?
 
I can't really give much advise on returning the mixer except that I just had a short look around the Behringer website, and none of the small mixers seemed to have inserts...

Hookup though, I can hopefully help with. The easiest (but not necessarily best) way is just to plug your mics into channels 1 and 2 of the mixer, pan one hard left and the other hard right. Plug the main outs of the mixer into the ins of the DBX (via 2 1/4" to 1/4" leads) and then from the outs of the DBX into whichever of the line ins of your digi you want to use. This does mean that your signal passes through the Behringer's output faders/eq etc, which has the potential to degrade your signal. The way I use the inserts (on my small mackie) is to use them as a direct out - I wire it the same as above, except that the output from the mixer is via the inserts. You can also use the alt 3/4 outs (same downsides as the main outs) or the aux sends (but one of the aux sends on your mixer seems to be fixed post-fader, which kind of defeats the purpose of using them...

On balance, if you're not going to get one with inserts, I'd suggest using alt 3/4 outs (just push the mute-alt3/4 switches to send the channels to the alt3/4 outs instead of the main outs. Then you can plug the monitor outputs of your digi into one of the stereo channels of your mixer and use the faders to control the volume of your monitors which you can hook up to the main outs, using either xlr or 1/4" outputs depending on what your monitors accept as inputs

If your MIXER is named "BEHRINGER", run...don't walk,
and return the d@mn thing right away!!!

If lack-o'-paper reasons are holdin' U back from purchasing a better board, there are other mixers in Behringers price range that will provide you with better service,operation and performance!!

Take it from a prev'ly DISGUSTED BEH MIXER OWNER!:mad:

Lol!! Thanks for the suggestion, actually earlier this day something was tellin me to return it. But I didn't!!! I think I will because the fact it doesn't have any inserts bugs me a whole lot!! So what would be a good mixer that has phantom power along with channel inserts for a reasonalble price? Don't get me wrong I don't have all the money to spend but then again I'm not EL CHEAPO at the same time ya know!!

(that's like inserting a cmp into a signal path, right? right!)

and for that guy who HATES behr. stuff.. why?
just pass me 1 good argument to even consider discussing this topic.
And don't gimme that bad pre-amp crap, after all we're at the HOMERECORDING board and most of us users couldn't tell a average from a good pre-amp even with A/B comparison.

Or is it b'coz behringer just REPLICATES all the 'good' brands for lower prices??

Although it is possible to plug a dynamic mic straight into a compressor it will lead to all sorts of mismatches and basically sound like crap.

The signal chain should always be Mic -> Mic Preamp -> other line level gear.


The most common complaint about Behringer boards is that they have an alarmingly high component failure rate.
