Hey guys. A little nervous to make my first mp3 post. Please give me feedback. I have a thick skin, so you can be rough if you like. I appreciate everyone's opinions here. We just finished recording a 4 song demo in my basement. The song is called "Fallen."
This production has "Fallen" and can't get up. Sorry, couldn't resist--it's not *that* bad.
Typical amature basement recording. Hardly surprising, but it doesn't sound good (like most stuff done with this many limitations). I remember doing stuff along this lines many years ago (in fact, someone this week made fun of one of them, mistaking it for something I had done recently).
Drums and guitar are extremely wimpy and distant. Total lack of low end.
A few timing issues in there. Most of the time it is on, but there's one part that falls apart a bit. This is inexcusable because you have all the TIME in the world to get things right when you record in your basement.
In general, it's obvious you have *some* skill. Keep working at it, you will get there. What this song needs is a better mix. With that being said, I feel that there are still a few tracking issues to contend with.
Next time around, tune the drums more solidly. While they aren't horribly out of tune a better job would make the toms sound better.
By the way, the singer sounds pretty good. In general the band seems pretty tight. Just up the production/recording knowledge and effort and you may have something cool very soon.
As it stands I give this a C- in the grand scheme of things, and a solid B for basement recording.
