Finally got my new Computer through.
Spec: AMD 64 Athlon 3500+, Asus Motherboard AV8, 1024mb of corsair ram, two maxtor 160 harddrives, asus graphics card, XP Pro.(total cost £690)
Problem is its a bit too noisy. Not neccesarily for recording but for mixing it can get quite distracting. I don't really want to buy a new insulated case or anything like that but i am looking for some quiet fans. I need three medium sized fans.
Any suggestions

Cheers
Dave

I'm not real sure but this site might help:

http://www.endpcnoise.com

They sell the gear but also have some good tips on making computers quiet and stuff, and they have reviewed most of the items they sell.

Adding quality fans and a quality power supply will help this scenario out a lot without having to buy an expensive case or something drastic. Also, install a thermal monitoring system that allows to variably control the speed of your fans better. You will be really surprised at how much noise can be dropped that way:)

Agreed! They sell low db. fans now. Check out www.Newegg.com or CompUSA.

1.) extra long monitor, KB, and mouse cables
2.) computer goes in a closet

works like a dream....

I also recently built a new computer. AMD Athlon64 3000+ w/1 gig Kingston RAM, MSI mobo, ATI graphics....blah blah lah.....

How do you like the processor so far? I love mine.

i dont know if this means anything...but is the computer on the desk beside you or under you? if its beside you...put it under you..helps with the sound. and also find fans that are 25 db or below

thane1200-i love it so far. it is just so fast at doing all the things that took me ages before. And now plugins that crashed my old 1.8 P4 load no trouble.
but the thing i love the most is the price.I budgeted a thousand for it and it means i can buy a Delta 1010.

distortedrumble-yeah the thing is below my desk at the mo. Would you suggest any good fans that i could fit.

Cheers for the replies.

Dave

(now all i need is a internet machine, bollocks :p )

Panaflo and PC Power and Cooling are a couple of quiet fans.
Papst is supposedly the best, but they are also very expensive.

Take a look at all the stuff made by Thermaltake. Excellent quality fans and power supplies as well as cool mod stuff and awesome cases. Newegg has a great selection of Thermaltake stuff.

I know the feeling, I upped from an AMD K6 500Mhz pile. Sweet ain't it.

First of all, 3 fans are two too many. Get one quality fan, from Zalman or something from endpcnoise.com.

Some people actually need more then one "quality" fan.....my AGP gets toasty!

Pity i don't have any ;)

The current fans i have at the mo light up blue (a really geeky feature, but i like ti) is there any quiet fans that light up or is there any way for me to use the existing cases and just replace the fans inside?

Cheers
Dave
