Pros

1. Excellent banjo tone
2. I like the acoustic bass
3. Authentic vocals, reverb is just right

Cons (minor stuff)

1. Bass could be a little louder with some more low end, I'd pull down 300hz a little
2. Lead vocal sounds a little thin, lil less highs
3. Can hardly hear the backup vocals, hiding behind lead vocal
4. The mandolin sounds a little thin also, picking sound a little too bright

Cool tune, I agree with Khom, I think the Soggy Bottom Boyz would love it.
 
Good foot tappin' song. Good pickin' on the banjo. I'd listen to it again.
 
I still love her voice. A couple of tempo fluctuations...awww fuck the mix, I know you care and stuff, I just don't. Her voice rules.
 
You know...I've noticed in your mixes that you tend to get one instrument rock solid and kinda' focus the mix around that sound. In this one, it's the banjo...(great banjo sound). In the last one I heard, it was a great acoustic guitar sound...you need to figure out a way to make this young lady's voice the center of these mixes, in my opinion...right now, she's just another instrument, and she's much more than that.

Sounding terrific!! I agree with what Kaos said about the bass and mando. I started rolling off the lows and it put a little more punch into the bass parts for me. The mando chops just don't cut enough for my tastes but hey - I play mando - so I want those chops in my face!! (better take that comment with a grain of salt!)

The vocal's a lot more up front than the last tune I heard you do but (I think) it could use just a smidge more to set her up on top, especially in her lower register. (I played around with my compressor and finally got my cranky ol' voice to sit on top of a mix.) That voice is sooooooo nice! The background vocals are kinda lost.

We're really nit-picking here - this really sounds nice - the playing is really nice - and tight! Do y'all get to perform? I'd certainly come out to hear ya!!

Oh yeah, almost forgot - a tip of the hat to the banjo player!!

You folks are giving me exactly the kind of feedback I need. I'm still learning.

I have a new dedicated audio PC which should arrive on Wednesday. In addition, I just bought a Mackie Control Universal and UAD-1 card for the new computer.

I think I'm going to wait until I have the new system set-up and going before I do any additional mixing on these songs. Should be mixing before next weekend.

The group is a 3-piece (Dad, step-mom and 17 y.o. daughter). I don't play with them as I have my own 5-piece BG group. I play mandolin too and when they (the 3-piece) heard the first rough mixes, the Dad said mando was too loud and banjo wasn't loud enough. Guess what he plays? :-)

I have her vocals up barely bouncing in the red so what can I do to bring her up on top a bit more? I used an AT 4033 on her but am going to Dallas tomorrow to pick up a Blue Baby Bottle. How will the Baby Bottle compare with the 4033?

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. I'll have a new mix up by next weekend.
